Took the boys hiking yesterday to a conservation area west of Toronto. It's mostly wide, non-technical trails, but my ankles are kinda wonky at the moment so I thought it would be a good fit.

What with everyone discovering the outdoors with COVID, you have to pre-register, and have a three hour window to spend there. We got there late during our window so only did 10.25k. Had time to do more but were kind of at the end of one trail so just finished there.

Quiet for much of it, but then - holy it was busy as we got closer to the trailheads. We avoided the most popular shorter trails (except joining one partially for a slightly longer trek to the parking lot) and did a longer one.

There's two videos, Neb and Agis running around and then Agis and his 'stick'.

Agis had a BIG stick fetch What beautiful country. Looks like the pups had a blast. They are lucky to have you for a Mom.

Thanks Rosa, that's so sweet of you.

Yes he loves his sticks!

On the 27th (we both have off as a carryover from Christmas Day/Boxing Day on the weekend) we're going to try to hike somewhere way further north and hope not as busy but a friend who lives up that way was telling me it still is. Sigh.

Thanks SRM! I go 'back' to work tomorrow. No hike as we're both feeling unwell. Went for COVID tests this morning.

We were heading off to hike this morning.

Agis found a big branch (obviously) and after carrying it for a bit, got the zoomies and started running full tilt in figure 8s. Agis is fast and strong.

I encourage Agis to body check me when we're playing, so perhaps this is my fault...body checking is one thing, but as hockey fans know, hits to the knee are a big no-no.

I was turned around and heard Toby cry out. Turn around, he's on the ground, moaning (sorta) and clutching his knee. I get worried. Grab Xerxes the Attack Beagle (who stays on leash) from him, leash Agis and Nebuchadnezzar. Agis is super happy. Toby is still on the ground.

Agis had run full bore into the side of Toby's knee. We're pretty sure it was either fully or partially dislocated. It's back in place but feels loose. Luckily we hadn't gone far and Toby could limp back to the car. At home, it's raised, we're icing, ibuprofen and he's got a knee sleeve on it for compression.

What with COVID and it being back in place, we don't really want to go to the ER. Hoping he didn't tear anything.

Toby rides his bike to work (who wants to take transit now) - he may not be able to, so I may be driving him to/from. Parking downtown could get expensive. If it's not better, Agis and I may not be backpacking next weekend as there's still the other two to take in and out.

Never a dull moment shocked

I'm sure you're right to avoid the ER. OK, your treatment sounds reasonable. I am guessing here, but if the pain isn't too bad I think he should move around some-but I truly am guessing.

keep us posted,
MJ

MJ you're probably not wrong about movement - keeps stuff from getting stiff? But poor guy. Yeah, really don't want the ER now. We just tested negative, he doesn't need to get it. Plus the government has just restricted test access and we still have record case numbers.

I feel bad. Toby was all, no no, it just happened - but I still feel awful for him.

He ended up going to the ER yesterday. Torn MCL and meniscus they felt, but didn't arrange follow up - said he'll need a MRI and a consult to see if he needs surgery.

So that was kinda weird, when I've gone for torn stuff before they refer me to the fracture clinic. I am guessing it's a COVID thing.

Well shoot (as we used to say in Arkansas). It's good that you went to the ER since Toby needs some kind of medical attention. I'm really sorry.

All the best to you all,
MJ

Yeah he was in enough pain Sunday I was like 'Forget COVID, you need to be seen'.

He spoke to our GP today who is going to get him a MRI. With the current health/hospital crisis though, who knows when that'll be.

He is moving way better today, which is a relief.

Glad Toby is moving better today but sorry he'll have to wait for an MRI. The surge in Covid cases has put so many things on hold everywhere.

Thanks SRM. I hope he's able to get in sooner than thought. But the omicron surge I think will put everything non-essential on hold.
