Lip sore/Lip Fold Pyoderma? - 06/13/11 04:38 AM

I notice today Lincolns lip was pink. It was black before. Its not raised or anything. Should I just leave it or apply some cream to it?

He also does eat a raw diet if that may have anything to do with it

I've never dealt with this, but wondering if it's related to this?

I think Lisa is right! I deal with lip fold pyoderma on an ongoing basis with Onyx. Run to Shopper's and grab a tin of Penaten (in the baby care section) and apply it twice a day. Onyx has very droopy lip folds and they get very irritated, very often, and this generally clears things up in a couple of days.

I dont think we have that stuff in Canada. This is the first time hes had this. Is this something that will cause issues and require tons of money? I have put over 5k in him and im just worn out lol. Hes a BYB bred dog...I have some cream in a tin meant for cow utters I use on his paws..dont remember the name. Can I use this stuff?

Wow he also rubs his face on the carpet too....interesting. I wish his jowels would tighten up. Maybe he wouldnt drool so flippin much lol

We have it everywhere in Calgary - I think it's just in the US that they dont carry it. I got a new tin at Shoppers last week. I think the big tin cost $13. From what I understand the zinc in the penaten that really helps, and it is also a barrier for the moisture so that the lip actually gets a chafe to heal. I think someone on the board did the equivalent of a lip tuck, but this works fine for me. Because he gets so drooly when he's playing with a ball, I am pretty sure it is going to be an ongoing thing, but it doesn't bother him as long as I keep the skin intact.

That sounds like Bag Balm. I wouldn't use it for the lip, though I do use it on the nose.

I think Desitin cream can also help if you can't find the Penaten.

What exactly causes the lip sore?

Moisture can cause a bit of bacteria or yeast to gather in the lip fold and irritate it.

Okay i was able to spare $10 to grab the larger can of Penatin cream on sale for $8.99. My only concern is what if he gets some of it in his mouth? Will it hurt him?

I know a few mentioned that is what this was. But I got a couple clearer pics. The white is the penatin cream.

Its hard to tell but its on the lip and its pink and kinda raw. Doesnt bother him. Hes never had this before. I do the cream twice a day? He when he eats raw chews on that side mostly could this have something to do with it? As he eats raw.
