(I believe it WAS food related...no problems since that one day and I have continued the antibiotic. My new problem is she just doesn't have an appetite anymore...which is NOT her. I did get some Hamburger and rice in her today. Hoping for a better day tomorrow)

I had one of those nights where you don't sleep...where something hits you like a ton of bricks...and then you can't shut your brain off! I just couldn't understand why such a drastic downspiral since really...Easter. Lack of appetite...obviously drastic weight loss...swelling in leg. Then it hit me...now that the swelling is so pronounced (I got a diuretic when I first thought I saw a tinge of swelling..thinking it's heart)...I see it's only in one leg...and it's the leg that has the skin infection in her groin. I'm thinking her leg is infected! Now...she's on antibiotics...could she still get a serious infection? Are different antibiotics only going to work for certain issues? The antibiotics she's been on...were geared to treated a skin infection...... Or...maybe it's cancer. But in any event...it's only one leg..and it just so happens to be the same leg where we have all the infection going on in the groin area.

She's eating the hamburger and rice.

I'm glad she's eating. She could have an infection and the antibiotic just isn't treating that infection. You could have them take a sample from the swollen area of that leg and see what they find. hugging

p.s. Also, all of my older animals had what seemed like sudden changes so it's not that uncommon.

When something is as important as Cheyenne's health and there's no clear answer, anybody would turn over and over again what could be going on. We can't help obsessing about those we love.

But she is eating and that's a big, big deal. She must not be ready to go-a truly big, big deal.

My best thoughts to you all,
Mary Jane

Zeniquin was a miracle abx for LJ.

I'm glad Cheyenne is eating! A B-12 injection might help with that.

Well that's an antibiotic we've never used before!

I got 3 small meals in her today!! A mix of hamburger, rice and scrambled eggs and a little cheese...my son thought I was making it for him..lol!! She really enjoyed it and finished her bowls. We had a good day today...she's perkier and even barked at people coming home. Her breathing was better today too. I'm going to call tomorrow and discuss all of this with my vet.

OK...I was right frown ....all of this is due to an infection that has set in from her skin issue in her groin area...it has spread to her lymph nodes and that is why her leg is so swollen. Basically...all these months of different antibiotics have done nothing....

I have two choices...so keep us in your thoughts and prayers while I sort this out frown

btw-do satin balls cause diarrhea?

Mary Ann, good thoughts to you and Miss Cheyenne. My gut is telling me if the infection is that bad it is taking all her strength. You might have to try a ABX cocktail if you are dealing with different bacteria. I know one time DeeDee got really sick, Vet had seen it in other dogs and had a protocol of three different ABX at once. Using just one didn't work. Just some thing you might want to talk to your Vet about is using multiple ABX.

Not sure about Satin balls and diarrhea. I think it depends on the dog and if they are sensitive to what is in them.

...the only thing left to try is Amakacin...which is a shot which would have to be done daily ,including fluids ,at the hospital( avg. of 2 weeks). It's pretty scarey stuff too. I'm feeling overwhelmed and devastated...and not sure what to do...
