Several of our puppy owners have included their beloved shepherds into their wedding ceremony, as part of the wedding party or ring bearers or even to walk guests down the aisle.
Was your gsd a part of your celebration? If you have photos or stories share them.

I do not have a photo but just audio from my husband and my wedding ceremony. We lived in Vermont and took a "working vacation to Las Vegas. Because we had been together for 7 years we decided the time was right to formalize our commitment to each other and marry while in Vegas. We didn't want to do the Little White Chapel route so we wed at gorgeous Mt Charleston 45 minutes north of the strip in the mountains. We had a clergy write our vows with our input long distance and she included in the wedding vows, OUR DOGS, Shasta (a german shepherd) and Rascal our beloved retriever mix. It was so special to hear her talk about our companions during the ceremony as the commitment we made to each other included our "four legged" family as well.

So what is your story? Photo?

I lived in sin for gosh, about 22 years, and decided I better marry the guy to get on his insurance policy LOL..

I am NOT into big crowds and being the focus of that, so we had his aunt who is a JP come to the house, and decided to do the ceremony in my living room in front of my fireplace..(I wore black I might add! LOL)..Anyhow, the 4 gsd's were out on the deck, looking in thru the sliders wondering what the heck was going on.

I swear this is true, when she got to the part where 'does anyone object" yada yada, Sami and Kodi started having a difference of opinion outside, (someone must have stepped on Sami's foot or bumped her god forbid!) they were ra ra-ing at each other..I said "hold that thought",,and had to go over and tell them to knock it off LOL..

So yeah mine were all there but I guess two of them weren't thrilled with it!

By the time we got Suki, our first dog, we had just celebrated our 26th anniversary, so no, she wasn't part of our wedding.

My first wedding was long before I got dogs, in fact the ex hated animals and refused to allow me to have one. Got rid of him and got my first GSD for my son. When I remarried, we travelled to New Mexico for our wedding and sadly, left the dogs in the kennel.

I would have liked to include them.

Here's a story for you:

My ex and I had a commitment ceremony with a chuppah. You can google the meaning but basically it symbolizes the home the couple will make together. Our ceremony took place in the summer and since my father was very, very ill we knew it had to be inside, with air conditioning. Friends and family helped us make and decorate the chuppah. We had 3 dogs and 1 cat (Cleo, of course!) between us and a picture of each animal hung from the top of each pole. wub

Of course we split up 9 years later and all of the (now geriatric) animals stayed with me. fallingleaves

Yes, but my wedding was really small, really not even much of a wedding. We originally planned on a very large ceremony. Invitations and reservations had already been sent, with a guest list of over 300 people, but Ken decided he didn't want to wait. We had only known each other less then 2 months, but wanted to get married immediately. I told him the only way I was going to give up my huge wedding was if my special boy Max can be there with me.

Max had this thing with not liking any one I ever dated, but he really liked Ken. So our weeding was in a very small church with only my mom, 3 brothers, sister in law, nephew, and of course Max. All three of my brothers argued who was going to give me away, so we settled with all three of them walking with me down the isle and Max right along with us.

While we were saying our vows, right after we were pronounced man and wife, Max left my side, and sat in heal position next to Ken. It was so sweet.

Not your usual ceremony, but hey, we have been married 24 years, and Max (rip) obviously had good taste.

Oops, I somehow left out the part of my story that said the space we rented did not allow animals so that's why they were represented with their pictures. smile

Yes! Following the usual serious formal signing of papers and verbal agreement done in the German city hall with officials, required translator, and beloved relatives present, we all trundled back to my sister-in-law's half-timbered home in Bavaria. There, we had the real wedding celebration!

Grimm was let from the car into the garden (yard), where he sensed something was up. At age 1 year, young Grimm tore hysterically with wild joy round and round the little Bavarian home, clods of grass flying as he gathered speed and momentum. The guests milled about on the covered porch in their wedding finery, including my dear, sweet, precious late German husband, Ulrich. Everyone laughed as the grey hairy form of Grimm streaked wildly by.

Suddenly, someone opened a side door to the house......

Grimm burst into The Home of Many Fine Breakables.

Shrieks of horror were heard as mortified guests bearing platters of delicacies, tiny Austrian nick-nacks of immesurable worth, old European family heirlooms on low ornate shelving, frilly handsewn lace room dividers, delicate glass hanging ornate balls, and tottering fragile crystaline ornaments spun, shivered, shimmied, and whirled in Grimm's thundering wake!

The only way to save the situation amidst the screams which spurred Grimm to even greater enthusiasm, was for me to stand in my wedding dress outside the opened door, in the garden, and loudly {{{ OINK OINK }}} Grimm's cherished giant latex pink piggy toy!

As I OINKED, a charging grey blur swept out the portal, and the rapid chatter of relieved guests from within could be heard trying to salvage ornaments, regain composure, and settle down racing heartbeats.

During the celebratory dinner, all was forgiven as Grimm snored behind the happy wedded couple at the head of the table, secure in his jumbo crate.. the blessed pink piggy resting atop it!

Oh Patti,

I remember your wedding day. Actually, I tried to post congratulations to Ulrich and you (on the other board) at the time that the ceremony was taking place in Germany. It's so good of you (and typical of you) to tell us a wonderful story, even with its sad ending.

Oink Oink-REALLY?

thank you, dear,
Mary Jane

I had Gus and Bailey before I got married and I wanted them to be part of my wedding day. Unforunately, the church and the reception hall would not allow them to come. I was determined to take them down the isle with me some how. I bought a picture bracelet and put six picutes of the dogs in it. My florist was able to incorporate the bracelet into my flowers.

I wish the bow wasn't in the way, but you get the idea....

Here I am entering the church before my brother walked me down the isle.

It was my way of having them with me that day.

I keep that bracelet in a shadow box with my wedding invitation and dried flowers from my bouquet.

My girls were not at my wedding...we just had a very simple ceremony in our living room with family in attendance. Originally planned it this way so my nana who had cancer at the time could come, but unfortunately she was in the hospital and couldn't come. My hubby's grandpa didn't make it either as he went to the hospital right after the ceremony! We got married, ate dinner, went to the hospital, visited my nana on floor 3 and his grandpa on floor 2, then went home to smoosh cake in each other's faces. Quite the day!!

However, the pups were at our wedding reception and were very good smile

I would love to be escorted down the isle by any of my group past or present. None of my 3 marriages were done in a church so it would not have been an issue.

didn't have dogs prior to the first 2. Number 3 should have been that way but we got married at the County Clerk's office when we went to get the marriage license. Since we obviously were already as old as sin and lived together for 14 years, they just waived us through without as much as an I DO.

I love reading all the cute stories.

If I were getting married right now (instead of years ago) I do not think I would be including my dog in the ceremony. I'm not that type I guess....besides, she's not really that type either wink
