A new member introducing myself: I'm Harry and I'm from Chicago.
Max is my boy. He's a rescue boy and is about 5 (+/- yr). As is the case with lots of rescue dogs, he had a jerk(s) for an original owner. When he was rescued by Chicagoland Shepherd Rescue, he weighed only around 50 some pounds. He had bad diarrhea. I'm sure the experienced GSD people know that meant he had pancreatic insufficiency. The rescue group got things under control and his weight up to 73 lbs. Shortly after I adopted him, he developed periannal fistulas. They are under control now (we're working our way to chronic condition management). He is a real sweet-heart.
He's my fourth GSD. I got hooked on GSD's as a kid back in the stone age when my aunt offered me a puppy (or two). After throwing temper tantrums (we lived with my grandmother and I kept getting "What will your grandmother think"), I got Nuchi, a female GSD. She was intelligent, dominant, territorial and protective. And she quickly got grannie under her paw. This was a good combination as my grandmother who was getting elderly felt (properly so) safe if left alone for most of the day with only Nuchi around. Whenever grannie took an afternoon nap, Nuchi would lay in front of her bedroom door.
Many years later I inherited my dad's GSD, Gretchen. She had made her daddie (my father) very happy by being an excellent wood-chuck killer. My dad had a small farm and was upset when he discovered woodchucks eating his soybeans in the field. He went back with Gretchen and a shotgun to kill them. Gretchen then showed off her varmint killing skills. I watched her kill a woodchuck once. She danced very gracefully around it until she could get in and get the woodchuck right behind its head and flip it in the air killing it.
After Gretchen passed away, I realized I needed another dog and got Schultz, my first rescue boy. He was a good boy. After he passed, it was time to get another dog, Max.
Love GSDs. Now if they could only figure out to hang to their hair, they'd be perfect.

welcome! My girl Tessa is from chicago, she was found as a stray. I adopted her from magnificent mutts rescue.
Sorry dude. I can't live up to your expectations all of the time. Sometimes I'm going drink six miniature bottles of rum and then draw horses. That's just the way the world works.- Allie Brosh

Welcome, Harry and Max! I have a GSD Skye who has pannus and has also battled perianal fistulas. I so much appreciate your commitment to Max and your previous GSDs.
Welcome to the board! Glad to have you here.
