I'm so sorry about the fall. I know how it feels to watch your dog fall and hurt themselves knowing you might have prevented it (remember my deck steps my negligent, dumb self didn't fix...I thought I could keep everyone safe and I didn't...NOT really the same thing by any means, I was WAY more at fault for Troy's accident). At any rate, it is a horrible thing to watch happen, I know, and I was a sobbing uncontrollable mess afterwards. Try not to beat yourself up too much, you are doing the best you can (whereas there was definitely more I could have done). frown

I hope that the suppository helps her rest a little better. I don't know how long it takes to kick in for a canine, but with my kids it was almost immediate. Hope that you can both get some quality rest tonight. hugging

Oh no, I am so sorry about the crash. That sort of thing happened a couple of times when I was helping Chama up and down steps. I always felt like puking. frown

What is she eating right now? I am expert at hand feeding these days so let me know if you need any pointers there.

Are you getting water into her somehow? How is her hydration? I would imagine you would need to keep on top of that with the mucous. SubQs are easy to do and easy to get from the vet.

Good luck with the suppository.

Keep a close eye on her after the Metacam. If she does have liver and/or kidney issues right now then it will be difficult for her to process any NSAIDS.

She has been eating cooked lean pork, cut pretty small, and veggies. She seems to eat okay, but insists on standing, which is not easy, since I have to stop everything to hold her. I can give her some primal raw now and again.

I hadn't thought that with the mucous, she would need even more hydration. I usually add a lot of water to the meal, but she hasn't been getting as much. I've been trying more apple juice since that's all she will drink if it's not mixed with meat. Primal is good because it mushes well with water. SubQ's they seem to not want to do with her heart I think, but I will ask about that. I have to think the mucous might not be as stringy if she is more hydrated?

The suppository was a bust. Took forever to find at the store (long story). The grass was wet outside, but we went out anyway - she didn't like the insertion wink tried to hop up several minutes later, and either expelled it, or she didn't really have anything to go.

I'm not real thrilled about the metacam either. I can't get pills in her, so I can't use some of my favorite stuff.

Okay, this is a totally off base question, but could this be a blockage of some sort? She scarfed a very large piece of hard bread/roll/bagel on campus Wednesday before I could stop her. The salivation would fit, but probably not the neuro symptoms. The xray did say that the esophagus was dilated. That couldn't be related, could it be????

Just wanted to add my continued best wishes for Indy. I pray the adjustment will show improvement tomorrow.

Prior to before when did she last have a bowel movement. I don't know about the child suppositories but the adult ones usually take around 30 minutes. Can you get enemas such as microlax?

http://www.chemistaustralia.com.au/products/microlax-enema-5ml-12.html

It's more just a lubricant that stimulates the bowel.

Would it maybe be time for an x-ray?

Would it be worthwhile to get another x-ray to compare with the one from a few days ago? And a blood draw to make sure the Metacam isn't making things worse? I know blood draws are difficult for Indy so understand any hesitation.

Lisa, it is just not getting better yet, is it? I am so sorry about the fall. Don't beat yourself up - it was an accident and not one you would have expected.

I so hope you can get a handle on Indy's problems soon. Is she allowed a little tea with honey? That could help with the mucous in her throat if it is OK.

Hang in there, Lisa. And Indy - poop Anyplace, even if on your mom's shorts.

so sorry indy fell , been there done that with Dodge, and it's so heartbreaking, makes us feel terrible:(

Since she hasn't really had a bowel movement, and is vomiting, maybe that chunk of hard bread is 'stuck' somewhere and not digesting??

It could be a long shot, but I'm wondering if it would show up on an xray and maybe it's time to think about having one?

Still sending good vibes and hoping for some improvement, hang in there

Man, I need to get some sleep, I'm exhausted.

I have some very definite things I'm observing, and depending on what those look like when I get home today, will determine if we go to Davis.

I am exactly thinking blood draw and now also thinking possible abdominal xrays. I would have gone last night, but too tired to make the drive safely, and then get back. I have to grab a quick nap after work. It's very possible that there is no blockage, but that there is significant infection. She does not froth so much (or sometimes at all) when she hasn't been fed, or she has been fed a liquid meal. Her eyes are becoming infected, her abdomen is firm, and it was not that way before when I checked it, whatever that day was. That day that she did well, may have been the morning that I did try the Tylan, it's all a blur right now. Gonna try for another 20 min of sleep before I have to get up for good. I just finished prepping for my afternoon classes frown
