Sleachy, VERY interesting about the vertigo. Indy is just over 13 years old now.

The chiro vet had an emergency C-section, so our appt was delayed a bit, just got back and settled. Before the appt, the vet from last night sent me the official reading from the radiologist of the xrays from last night - "Lungs are completely normal, as well as the abdominal organs and spine. Indy's heart is a little enlarged, which we already knew. The only thing they noted was that the esophagus was mildly dilated, which can be a clue that there is something going on there, although with the history of coughing and gagging, this may be a sequelae to that." That all sounds like a good thing.

At the appointment today, the vet said that this is not Vestibular Syndrome. I think it's a given that it's not kennel cough, we never even mentioned it at this appointment.

She did adjust Indy's neck and a couple of other spots. The left atlas was over-rotated, which could cause some symptoms, though this vet has never seen a reaction like Indy's to such a thing. Whatever this is, it is quite serious.

We discussed the possibility that it's a reaction to her heart meds, which made her very stumbly when she first started them, but this would be one of those one in a million cases. But then again, this is Indy.

She said that if there aren't signs of improvement by tonight, or definitely by tomorrow night, then I need to "prioritize this". I understood what she meant by that.

If things aren't better, or if they take a turn for the worse, off to the ER at UC Davis. I have a copy of her xrays from yesterday in case I have to do this. I guess I should get a bag of stuff together in case I need to do that in a hurry, and get driving instructions.

Indy was given a shot of Cerrenia to combat the nausea, and a shot of essentially pepcid to protect her stomach from the accumulation of mucous. She has a script for both for the next week. The Cerrenia was amazing - started working by the time that the techs left the room.

Now we wait and watch. I will continue with the nausea/anti-acid meds, I am going to cut back on her heart meds, and I'm supposed to give doxy to make sure that if she aspirates into her, she doesn't get an infection, which would be very bad for her and her heart condition. I'm worried about the doxy, it's an mdr1 drug, but not supposed to have an affect, but I'm just not sure.

She commented that Indy has been in some pretty bad spots before. That Indy has circled that drain before, but always pops out of the orbit and recovers. She said that she is more hopeful with Indy than any other dog in this situation because of this, that she's one strong dog. After she and the techs left the room, this just made me cry. And also on the way home. And now too teary

She is resting easily now, and now I have to get a weekend's worth of work done in whatever hours of the day I have left crazy Please send some healing thoughts for my very best girl wub

frown Worry worry worry. I am glad she's a tough girl. Picturing Indy as Audrey Hepburn steely eyed and standing up to whatever this is.

Maybe something like that?

Here's Davis's emergency info: http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/vmth/small_animal/ermedicine_icu/default.cfm

Thanks for letting us know.

Thank you everyone!

Jean, I put the info re:UCD into my phone and bookmarked the location in google maps, so I should be set.

Interesting about the MG...when she was young, I was convinced she had this and I had her tested. She was negative then. Since it can be acquired, I wondered if that could have changed. Certainly worth keeping on this list.

The vet/chiro just called a bit ago to check on things. Her dad is a chiro for people and she just relayed to me some of the things that they talked about wrt Indy. It was very neat that she followed up like that, it was comforting.

I really like that your vet/chiro checked in. Very comforting and caring! I wish that I had ideas and solutions, but right now all I have is positive thoughts and well-wishes. I'll be beaming them to Indy, for fast recovery and healing. She's been through so much and she is a special, strong girl with a strong will and lots of people sending her good healing energy!

Thank you!! She is soaking up all those well wishes!

Her eyes are different tonight. Occasionally they open better, the one eye is not tearing. She is wobblier in the hind and weak weak weak. Her poor little voice is so hoarse from all the mucous frown When awake, she is able to be more alert. I did find a couple of homeopathic remedies that I will try crossedfingers

eta: Oops, the eyes change, and tear again, when she is standing or tries to walk...
