That was the question when I took Indy to the vet tonight.

She's been sick, thick drool hanging from her mouth, eyes look awfully funny, weak in the limbs, often knuckling in the front. I never heard of all of those symptoms with the doggie flu or KC, so off to the vet.

Luckily, xrays are still clear, so although her heart is all messed up, she is thankfully not yet in early congestive heart failure. Electrolytes are also all good.

I am wishing now that I would have bought that webmaster for her when I was looking at it.

Anyways, for those that have been through KC, a few questions...

Did you see any eye problems? Did it make them weak with difficulty standing (this part worries me)? Were there long stretches of silence, and only coughing with motion or aggrevation or eating?

Those of you that have fought this, any favorite ways to help them through this? I have a favorite supplement when I get a cold - she seems to not want to take any pills.

I really hope Max doesn't get this...

Thank you bianca, she's so sick she can barely stand, whatever it is frown

I just gave her a dinner of whey, glutamine and probiotics mixed in apple juice - I hope that she can tolerate that without gagging/coughing. Forgot to mention that she is gagging up pools of clear, thick, slimey saliva. No temp.

So what did the vet think is causing this?

Her guess was actually kennel cough. But it doesn't seem to explain enough of the pieces to me. I'm hoping folks who've been through this can tell me if all these symptoms sound reasonable for kennel cough. I would be happy to know that this will resolve with supportive care.

She's insisting on sleeping on her favorite spot on the stairs, silly girl, it really isn't safe for her now unless I am here to help her. Poor Max, he wants his walk.

Just found this,

http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/121619.htm

I am sure you will have already researched it, but from everything I have just been looking at, most dogs do not have other symptoms apart from cough and maybe gagging, vomiting frown ?? hugging

Thank you bianca, I hadn't done too much googling yet....this sure doesn't sound like kennel cough. This sounds neurological. She just tried to pee outside and all her legs collapsed.

I was able to stop one of her fits by using my red light acupuncture thingee on her neck. I don't know if that was a coincidence or not. She's sleeping pretty peacefully for the moment.

I'd like to get into the chiro, don't know if I should use one of the backups, which may mean getting in tomorrow, or her longterm vet, but if I can get it, I'll still have to wait until Tues, though she may be booked.

I guess we see how the rest of the night goes.

Lida,

Is there any chance she got into something that could be poisoning her? If so, that might cause the neurological issues you are seeing.

Is there a tox screen the vet can do?

Ge hugging t better, sweet Indy.

Oh Lisa,
Here you have been holding my hand just about with all I have been going through with my crew, and then this happens with Indy. I am so sorry, poor Indy.

Could it be Vestibular? Not sure about the coughing and gagging, but the other symptoms are similar to Vestibular too.

I hope she gets better soon. Hugs.

Eye rolling is a symptom and vomiting can be too.

Oh my gosh - how is she doing now? That does not sound like KC to me - I've had some fosters with it, and a couple of times my dogs have gotten it with them, but I stopped fostering when Kramer and Nina got older because I had heard it can be quite rough for seniors. If you have to can you get to an ER like Davis?

Just thinking aloud here-- chest Xrays came back with lungs clear? My last senior presented this way about a week almost after having surgery. It turned out to be "walking pneumonia"-- same stagger-y, knuckling over symptoms, occasional coughing but not constant. And, it happened "all at once"-- meaning, he had had it since a few days but it was not noticable. No temp, initially no coughing, and only later were xrays showing fluid. If I had known and started the abx sooner, it would have been better. Any chance at all that it could be pneumonia? Sending positive thoughts and vibes for your sweet Indy. How is she now?
