What's in your holistic medicine cabinet and what do you use it for?

Homeopathic remedies:

Arnica: for pain, injury or trauma, muscle strains or sprains
Hypericum: for pain, especially nerve pain
Calendula: for pain from lacerations & wounds, stimulates healing
Ledum: punctures or stings, eye injuries
Nux Vomica: for nausea & vomiting & diarrhea; also works for colds & sneezing
Arsenicum Album: food poisoning or upset stomach
Silicea: expels foreign objects from the body
Phosphorous: calming

For combination remedies this is a GREAT company and their remedies really work: http://www.homeopet.com/products.html

I will add herbs, cremes, etc. later but wanted to get this started.

Whisky and 7 up ( for me) on a bad day laugh

Actually I am just starting to learn about holistic herb and remedies for pets and people. It seems much healthier than all the chemicals vets are prescribing

Slippery Elm for acid stomach in cats. I can tell you it probably was a big part in helping me save Dixon's life. Before he had any Slippery Elm he didn't eat at all. If he would have refused food much longer he would not be here with me right now.

Ichtholan salve, also known as black drawing salve. Function is a bit like Sillicea. It can expell something foreign, or help an old abcess drain. German vet reccomended it, I tried it and it worked well on Grimm's hard abcess on his ribcage. Used when a cut is not in direct danger of newly being infected, but if there is already something in there. It draws it out. It can help a hard abcess drain. It can help when there's a suspected chunk of gravel or even a suspected old tick head lodged somewhere. It starts to work immediately, but the course of treatment may take a week or so. It absolutely stains your rugs, too. wink But, it is very effective.

Oh I love the black drawing salve! I actually used some on a suspected spider bite to draw the nasty venow out of it. It works great but smells horrible!

For the dogs, definitely Slippery Elm. I have a list of other stuff for them but they are not holistic(pepto, Gas-X, Pedialyte, probiotics, enzymes just to name a few)

For me, Echinacea! It is a natural antibiotic so when I feel a cold coming on, or anything else that ails me....

Also Calendula for the same as mentioned above.

Passionflower is also good for soothing the nerves and helping one relax & sleep.

Eucalyptus too! I have a cream with that & spearmint in it- it helps to soothe the aches away. Love it!

I would add the homeopathic remedy Ignatia - great for when you have to leave your dog - leave with their carer and get them to put one pill into their water daily while you are seperated. when I use to dog sit I used this all the time for the dogs and I never had any problem with them - even with dogs that had a history of seperation anxiety.

Rescue remedy spray - great for car journeys if your dog is nervous about going in cars.
