This is southeast Oklahoma....

Our Walmart super center was recently remodeled, it looks great, but they don't have anything!

It is really the only place to buy groceries in a town of 20,000. Yes I know - unbelievable! So everyone shops there, it is always mobbed unless you go very early and I normally do.

I have had dill weed and onion salt on my list for over 8 weeks! hey are out. I finally had enough and asked the store manager if they were ever planning on stocking these items. He looked at me like I was nuts, then asked me what that stuff was! I tried hard no to laugh as I explained to him that those were very common herbs and spices used in cooking and salads. He was very sincere when he made a note to check on those special items for me and order them!

Special items?? Only in McAlester, Oklahoma. I think I will come unglued if I have to drive to Muskogee or Tulsa to get a jar of Dill Weed. Next year I will grow my own.....

I could see myself doing a lot of online ordering IF I lived in McAlester. I do not/will not shop at Wal-Mart. I was in the store a few times in Manitowoc, but not since they went Super Center a few years ago.

Unfortunately it really is the only place to shop for much of anything. We do have a Lowes, and a small Penney's, a Pet Sense, and a great meat market where we buy our meat.

I may have to order online! I do a lot of that anyway.

At least the Tractor Supply store orders dog food for me!

Kathy, you should check out Penzey's, they have an amazing selection of herbs and spices, and they do a bunch of their own blends too, many of them salt free.

There are 13 different kinds of chilis, (both ground and whole dried), 9 different curry powders, 12 different choices in cinnamon - ground, chucks, sticks, & sugar, 8 different whole peppercorns and 6 pepper blends, 4 taco seasonings, a bunch of salad dressing mixes...

It's one of my favorite haunts!!! My new favorite is a specialty olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop nearby. HEAVEN!!!

We also have a Penzey's in town. What I really like about Savory is that they blend/grind/crush the spices there and they'll sell you a tiny bit if you are just trying a recipe. You don't have to buy a whole bottle to see if you like it. I've explored a lot of stuff that way.

The owner (it's a husband and wife team) has a show on Food Network now. I haven't watched but there's signs all over the place in the shops.

I am bookmarking both places!!!! And ordering tomorrow!

That's up near the Sonoma County wine country - 70+ miles North of me, but we do go up there from time to time. Too far for a special trip, but not too far out of the way if we're headed up that way. Thanks!

Ha Ha Ha I went to the Wal-Mart in McAlester Oklahoma when I bought Yessy Vom Haus Berg.

My daughter and I stayed at a hotel and we wanted some munchies so we bought milk, cookies and candy! We just wanted some really bad for us snack foods and I remember chatting with the check out girls about how they sure don't have much there!!!!

Ha Ha so we had fun..my DD and I, snacked out watched a movie and went and got Yessy to bring back to Crooked Creek the next morning.

Yeah I can see it wouldn't have "Exotic Spices" but the Twinkies were good.....

It's surprising what you CAN find at a Wal-Mart...even if it's only on the parking lot. My baby Troy was a "Wal-Mart dog." He was saved after being abandoned in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Troy, MO. I was real original with his name.

But yeah, the store itself doesn't have much!!! Why do I still get excited about going there? I've been brainwashed.

Well I can say that the Walmart has banned selling puppies in the parking lot here, so now the millers have moved across Hwy 69 to the Candlewood Inn Parking lot.

Yessy is Tracy's breeding, right? I just talked to her the other day, I was planning ahead for Max's remains so I did not have to think about it when the time came (very soon I am afraid). She works at the shelter and they offer private cremations. Tracy is a nice lady.

It's a small world. And my Troy was there as a 6 week old puppy back in '99 with a "Free" sign on the cardboard box he was in...He may have been free, but his love is priceless.
