People are welcome as long as they follow the Board Rules. I have given a little latitude with some things, but the rules for infractions are spelled out, so there is no guessing or pushing the limit.

Congrats, Val. Looks like a good move to me. Why Administer someone else's board when you can spend all your waking hours administering your own?

It's got the name so I don't think it will ever fade away completely. Probably go the same as what happened to Gary's board before he finally stopped doing it.

This has been some thing that I have contemplated for over a year, yep that long. I had a file with notes on what I would want to do if I made the big leap. So it wasn't just recent events, I would say recent events were the final straw.

Diana, I am sure the old board will continue to survive, they have the $$'s to make sure they stay at the top of the search engines. I don't care if we are number one, but I do care about the quality of the content (advice) that is available.

I don't expect everyone to agree, but I do expect that any disagreements are that disagreements, you can disagree with out doing personal attacks.

The GSDRing board. I joined that board shortly after joining the .com board (so back in 2001!). I can't remember exactly what year it disappeared. Maybe 2003? It changed one of my last years of college and I stopped going.

Diana, I was visited a Snowmobile board that was very active, the same company that bought the other board bought the Snowmobile board. It is still in existence just not the same as far as posts or content. The Manufactures and some big dealers use it to advertise. The meat of the actual snowmobile racers and fans just moved over to another board. So I fully expect the other board to be there for a long time, just going by past history.

That's exactly why I'm here! Many thanks Val for starting this wonderful and comfortable board. It feels like the other forum did years ago. No drama, no nastiness - just a bunch of internet "friends" chatting, giving advice, taking advice and talking about the loves of their lives - the critters of course!

Who could forget - Good times. The moon would be full and it was time to slap Sammy and Bill around. I think that was their names anyway. The fights were pretty funny, always the same players, you wouldn't know half of what they were talking about and it was very lightly moderated.

Wow, 212 members already - there were 150 something the last time I checked, which was sometime yesterday.

Val, does Yung know you've started your own board and that's the reason you left? I noticed that several people have recently posted links to this board, so if he doesn't know yet I'm sure he will soon, I was just curious.

I didn't tell him that I started a new board, I did tell him that I had other things I needed to spend my time on. I would have left any way, I don't like the software or the layout it is very hard on my eyes.

I didn't do this to try to wreck any other board, this is some thing that I have been thinking about for over a year. New ventures are all about timing.

I almost expect that VS/Yung expects this in every circumstance where they have bought out a board and made major changes. When I was browsing on the web when they first bought the other board, I read that sequence of events numerous times.

There are two issues over there, in my opinion. First is the corporate structure. If we thought we had a missing owner with Rhaya, I suspect that it will be much worse with VS and all the boards that they manage. I've already had a number of questions directed towards Yung that were never responded to. I know that Yung himself manages many boards, though I don't know the number.

The other issue is the insistence on their better software. Can't tell you how many threads I've missed even when I've been looking for them, things don't work so that you can follow along well, the pm's don't facilitate a community and ongoing communication, etc.

So with a ga-zillion GSD boards, there has to be an expectation that a number of folks would be going elsewhere. In most situations, I found that previous board users did start their own forums, so this is something they have seen over and over and their boards seem to live through it.

What I don't know about what they've learned, is how they react to this will determine who still stays and doesn't. They can do stupid things like start banning members, reading their pm's to see what they are doing, etc., which would really make it a mass exodus, or they can just let these things be, knowing that that's the nature of the game, and folks will come to the board if they don't screw it up too much.

For me, I was asked to be a Mod over there to help build a body of knowledge in health, the index, and other things. The new software will not allow any of that, so what is left is a shell of what it was and could be. I spend my day at work fighting a a new "upgraded" version of our software that does half as much and takes twice as long. The converted format over there is very similar to that, a nicer feature here and there, but not designed to create real communities, like we used to be over there.

So, I wouldn't be surprised if Yung already knows that there is another board out there - there are lots of boards out there. If it weren't this board here, I would have found another board to primarily hang my hat, and it sounds like that would have happened to a lot of other folks too.

This may be a touchy subject, as you are all admins and mods from the other board; what about members who were banned there, are they welcome to join this one? Are you screening IP addresses and refusing membership? Don't have to answer it, but there were a few who were assets to rescue and such that were banned...

I will answer.

Anyone is welcome to join, I expect ALL members to follow the rules, if they don't then there are consequences for their inability to follow the rules. With the Rescue section, if there are questions by myself or other rescue groups in regards to information or status of paperwork, I expect them to be answered. If people don't feel they need to answer questions brought forth then they probably don't want to join.
