Memories of Caleb

When Ciara was still a little pup Caleb used to clean her ears for her. It was a thing with him. I've only had 2 other male dogs and neither of them ever did anything like this with a puppy.

He did this very often. To the point where if Ciara wanted her ears done, she would go and lay in front of him and within a minute or so he would start cleaning her ears.

A couple of nights ago when we were getting ready to go to bed., Roisin stood up beside Ciara and licked her ear a couple of times. I have to admit it brought a tear to my eyes and brought those memories of Caleb and Ciara right up to the surface.

And then there is his apple tree here in NH. Had Roisin on a "tieout" for a few minutes this morning while I cleaned up the yard and then got a picture of her under the apple tree - a bit further to the left of where he is in the picture below..

Miss you my big boy.

Johanna,

Is that the shadow of Caleb's tree caressing your little girl?

Yes it is, MJ

For reference, the tree in the upper right corner of the picture of Roisin is the same tree as the tree in the upper left corner of the picture of Caleb (slightly different angle, but the same tree..

MJ, Another photo of Roisin, Ciara and the apple tree. You can see the spot that Caleb liked to lay.

Sometimes when I look at the apple tree, my mind sees Caleb still laying there just enjoying the view.

That apple tree was a special place for Caleb. I remember all the wonderful pictures of him laying under the tree. So glad to see Ciara and Roisin enjoying the area as well.

We are seeing connections between Roisin and all of our past dogs. My old boy Max (a GSD mix) used to pick up the dog food bowls for me. He did it when he was a puppy and I thought it was cute so I encouraged and rewarded him for picking them up and giving them to me. Roisin has made it her mission to clean her bowl and Ciara's, another memory of Caleb. Then she picks up the bowl and carries it to "puppy hill", a memory of Max before I had him trained to give them to me.

Kelly was also a toy hoarder, so was Rica. The only one I haven't seen a piece of yet is Aodhán, but I bet that will come in time. Maybe she'll end up being cuddly, like Aodhán.

Caleb is watching over her, I'm sure. I think she's going to be a handful at times. just like he was when he was young and will keep us on our toes.

Took a little trip down memory lane today and was looking at pictures of Caleb as a puppy. Here's one when he was around 12 weeks old and discovered that he like "salad"

[Linked Image]

We used to joke that he ate more salad than his boy (Tyler). If I sent him outside to do business and he knew that DH was making salad he would come right back to the door and bark to come back in because he didn't want to miss out on his veggies.

Well - guess who else has decided that veggies are pretty good?
[Linked Image]

Not that she's the only one. Caleb also taught Ciara to like her veggies, too.
