Barker the Younger the Second had a dramatic change in heat cycle this month. It started with early spotting (she hadn't spotted before) with bright red drops. Then we got pretty heavy discharge that was decidedly bloodier than earlier cycles, some clotting expressed. Just not typical at all. Having been reassured that the early spotting was of no concern (staff took my message to the vet and his to me via the phone so something likely got lost along the way.) I had thought that it would moderate. It didn't, so we got in yesterday. I should have listened to myself earlier. She's now on 3 different meds and will likely be spayed on the 28th. I'm hoping all goes well, if the tumor is cancerous, I'm hoping that has not metastasized.
She's in good spirits and that's a good sign. But I am kicking myself for not taking her in earlier. It is hard to get an appointment so I was fortunate that they could see her the day I called.
I'm also fortunate in that although the dealer's shop is seemingly dragging on dealing with the newer truck, friends had helped get the 30 yo moving about 6 weeks ago & I had some routine Maintenace done on it (It had sat for over 2 years) So it is working for now.

There's irony in this in that last time at training she decided to wise up significantly

Bah hum bug

I am so sorry to hear this Middle! My heart goes out to you and your furbaby. Praying it is not metastasized too. So glad they saw her the same day you called. Holding you both in my prayers.

Oh Middle, I am so very sorry this is happening. I pray the spay goes well and that it's not cancerous hugging I'm glad she's in good spirits so hopefully this will be just a little bump in the road.

Ms. BTIY 2 is home.

She pulled through, is still a bit groggy. (went in at 7:30 - not my time of day) ready to come home about 2:30 - 3. Retrieved.

Cycts, no tumors, massive infection still after about a week's antibiotics. I had thought that her gut seemed swollen last night but then I wondered if I had just not noticed before as she had just eaten.

So pretty good news.

A bonus - I remembered to walk her until she peed before loading her. Critical when she's sharing a bench seat with me.

Clarification - most of the infection went out with the removed body parts. But still on antibiotics because it was quite nasty and she's still draining a bit. But that has slowed noticeably. The vulva with the draining is distracting her from her incision - but I know that day 3 after surgery is critical for itching/scratching/dog self care of removing stitches too early. So I need to be on top of that.

To keep her from climbing the stairs so often, I am sleeping on the first floor. That meant clearing that bed by dumping the piles other places. Housekeeping is not my main skillset and any horizontal surface is endangered. I think all of us slept well.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm just so happy that she's made it this far.

Thanks for asking. So far, so good. I'll do another incision inspection today. She's been walked on lead since coming home and only today produced a BM. I was getting worried but on the other hand, she's been on small meals until yesterday evening. Rather makes sense but today would have been the last day to get ahold of the vet before the holiday (of course.) The timing so far is good, too.

Next challenge is protecting the stitches that will itch today..

Defecation counts as a victory! For hospitalized people that is sometimes a huge hurdle to go home.

Good luck on stitch defense-I don't always win.
