I could not deal with watching Abbey look so depressed wearing her muzzle every day and every night while we are away sleeping or working. And despite the muzzle, she is still creating issues with her hot spots on her hips and her foot. I decided last week it was time to try something different. What if she wore a body suit of some sort? I played around with this idea some time ago but it seemed that it would not have the effect needed. I decided to do this anyway. I found one that seems to be best fit for her, and had her try it on.

She's been wearing this suit for a week now, with supervised breaks from wearing it. The change is AWESOME! She's not depressed anymore because she's not being muzzled. And she is leaving her hips and foot alone. We also invested in anti-slip socks since she now is hopping from rug to rug intentionally trying to avoid the hardwood floor. Since wearing those anti-slip socks, she's playing around on the hardwood floor with confidence. Her hotspots are healing and the foot is starting to look much better. We should have done this a long time ago, but I wasn't sure if it would even work. She looks so funny in the body suit, but it's doing the job. It's so easy to wash too.

Hey, great job! That's fantastic! I'm glad she's happier. So the hips and foot are looking better?

OK I can see a wardrobe growing... I used K9 top coats (I think the brand was) for Barker Sisters #1 trying to get a handle on skin issues. Bought them silver ones and with their seat belt harnesses of red and black over the coats, they looked like the space cadets they sometimes acted like. So yeah, makes you laugh but if it does the trick... And congrats on getting a dog to wear boots! You deserve a prize for that one.

Abbey looks so comfy snoozing on the rug. So happy you found a solution. thumbup It just goes to show you that sometimes we know more than the medical professionals. wink

The hips and foot are looking better. Not constantly irritated, and I think the new skin is finally growing on her foot. She's still got some tissue that needs healing- but the fact that she isn't licking at them- that's great!
Yesterday and today, she moved around a lot, playing. Then she started licking her front legs- particularly the other side of the elbow... Now the skin is showing signs of irritation. headbang I don't know if this means with her moving a lot, the suit is chaffing her skin, or if it's rubbing her the wrong way and she is irritated from it. The skin clearly shows irritation. So I went ahead and cut holes in that $60 suit. hammer Now she's not licking at them as far as I can tell and she looks sillier than before. But the goal is comfort, and healthy skin. We'll see. I want to buy another suit but I need to see how this suit goes. Maybe I should invest in some cotton style hand-me-downs if I can figure out how to get the clothes to stay on her without making a strap that goes around the arthritis areas of her back.

Middle, Abbey started wearing boots back in November when she first started having her foot problem. So by now, she's gotten used to having boots on her back feet. But I tell ya, try making her wear boots on her front paws... Nope! She ain't having it!!!

SRM- I have wondered why the medical pros haven't suggested this. Maybe they think she's so stubborn, the expensive dog suits won't be worth the effort.

Oh no not her elbow! It never rains, eh.

Here's hoping it heals up. I'm glad the rest of it looks better.
