I was doing some basic obedience with Agis today, using praise instead of treats. He was bothering Neb, so I do it to refocus him.

He did a sit from a down (which he's not always good at) and I praised him and bent over to pet him...he was so excited he jumped up, and head butted me in the nose, HARD. I thought he broke it. I ran into the bathroom in case of nose bleed. Nothing happened, I think he's just bruised it and not broken it - I do have a headache though - watch, the bloody dog has given me a concussion (I have issues with them from playing rugby and other sports as a teenager).

Obedience is dangerous, apparently. Next time I'm using treats for a training session! Sheesh!

Ouch - hope you feel better soon.

I've had my share of knocks and bruises from excited dogs, too.

My headache is starting to improve. I'm torn between being like 'Well, he was very proud of himself and that's great' or 'Bad obedience to jump up and head butt me, ouch'

Oh how I know that pain Jenn. hugging And it happens so fast. I'm glad your headache is improving. Just lay low today and get some rest. Your head likely took one heck of a blow.

Jenn-take care of yourself, maybe rest some, and let your animals fend for themselves a little while. I adore Nova's head-but that silky fur conceals a skull of granite!

Toby has today off so we walked to a patio and had a light lunch - it actually helped my head, go figure. I may not run tonight though, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks Rosa and MJ! Dogs, I tell ya!

I'd definately stay home tonight Jenn. Our heads take one heck of a blow when this happens. I'm sure we could get a concussion that way. I know I've had some serious blows myself.

Jenn, I sympathize. I had not had a bloody nose until about 5 years ago teaching the youngest to go over the wall and not jump off the side. She jumped off the side smack into my face. Maybe two years later, she's a great tracking dog but being a bit flaky. I duck under the irrigation rig to get to the track. Ahhhh $%! Another bloody nose... She got her butt chewed for that one - and did an incredible job tracking. So the secret with her seems to be to give her holy heck before we start... But still. ... There are other similar wrecks in my past. ...

Sometimes obedience turns into a contact sport. Hope you are fine - head wallops can be dangerous.

Oh middle, OUCH! Yikes. Yeah, it's funny with dogs like that. Here's hoping no bloody noses in either of our futures!

I could picture this exactly, hopefully you will learn your lesson better than I did. wink I don't know how many times it took for Sean to headbutt me before I anticipated it coming. I swear their heads feel like they're made of iron. Glad you rested and didn't go out to run the same night. Rest is best!

I am so late on adding to this thread (and many others). I have a half moon shaped scar right under my lower lip. I was talking and leaning over DeeDee and she popped up and some how put my teeth almost completely through the area under my lower lip. Dang that hurt and was swollen, sore and difficult to talk, drink and eat for a while.

I have a scare on the top part of my elbow from a fly by snap during play with my first GSD.

I haven't really looked much but I wouldn't be surprised if I had scars on the backs of my calves from Cheyenne. She loved to run up behind me and nail me right above my cowboy boots. One day I was waiting for her to do it and I got my timeing just right where she got the heel of my boot under her chin. No more bushwhacking mom.

Yeouch! Val, those sound painful.

It's funny, I have friends who were like 'He's so badly behaved' when I told them - I was like 'No, he's just an exuberant puppy who was very happy he did good!'. I'm glad he gets that excited about obedience, haha!

Agis ALMOST struck again. We were playing tug with one of those webbed big balls (hexagons?) and I got it from him, while cleverly lifting it up by my head to throw.

Except Agis was too fast and jumped up to grab the ball. Got an (admittedly soft) ball to the face!

Uh huh. Somehow I think many of us can relate... In all my life (and I'm 7 years into retirement) I had never had a nose bleed. Then along came Barker the Younger 2. a. move up to the wall to keep her from launching off the side. She launched off the side. Smack into my face. b. duck under an irrigation line to go to the track... yup. She caught hell for that one and afterward did the best practice track ever. Guess I just need to really chew her out before we track.

Then let's see --- yup it's BTY2 time again. She's on a 15 footer and that line has knots tied in it. She's not downing but zipping around like the nutty dog she is. Great opportunity for me! Yes! Step on that line! and forget you are on gravel.... It DID down the dog. It also downed the handler face first in said gravel.

OK well then there's the send out again with BTY2..... someone at club had introduced a new way to get the dog to do a down on send out. Oh yeah. Just step on that line when you say "platz!" uh they forgot to say plant your feet immediately. Dog down. Handler down.

So no, none of us, just you Jenn..... wink

I think it's an occupational hazard of living with dogs middle! Oh, BTY2! Silly girl!

It's amazing, when you talk to dog people, how many of them have injuries from dogs!
