I should give a Jazz update. Can't believe that the last one was in 2017, it was a short update thread, here is the link:
https://germanshepherdhome.net/foru...z-jazmine-watch-out-for-normal-lab-tests

I adopted Jazz when she was about 6 months old, she will be 9 in October - how wild is that?????

It took a long time for me to realize that she has Ehlers Danlos (EDS), which is a collagen disorder, and also to learn that the antibiotic doxycycline inhibits one of the enzymes that break down collagen, so that has remained central in her treatment plan. She also has IBD and the doxy helps keep that in check as an anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, she progressed from the IBD to develop Lymphangiectasia (inability to process fats) which is treated via diet and also the doxy. Oh, she was also diagnosed with SLE, Lupus, when she was quite young.

The collagen thing has a lot of weird implications, but I can keep a check on it by how loose her skin is and how well she keeps her wrists in alignment.

She is relatively stable in that her conditions yo-yo's a alot. I think that I could probably get the IBD and lymphangiectasia under control without meds (fecal transplant and ozone really helped), but I found that she couldn't go without the doxy because he skin would just start hanging off of her and she would be unable to hold her joints in place. Her chiro has been wonderful - she can tell when Jazz's collagen is loose by the feel of her joints, so I get an extra avenue of feedback that way. Her joints did better when I could have her on the homemade bone broth, but I stopped that when she developed the lymphangiectasia.

She still has severe SA (separation anxiety) - I was never able to really work on that since I was so busy with elder care. I worry as she ages about keeping her hiking for her sake and mine! But for now she is hiking well, takes a long time to recover - has a significant collagen breakdown after a hike, but seems to be ready for the next hike by the time it comes around.

So, so far, she has been in a steady state, living her best life, and being a great dog smile

Well what a ride for Jazz and you..... She looks happy, trim and fit. Just looking I would have no idea about all the health issues.

She did choose her home well... did she ever!

Really nice pictures - one happy, pretty dog and a great location. Thanks for the update.

It's simply great to see and hear about Jazz again. She looks fantastic. You've mentioned hikes before but I had no idea how much planning that takes so she can enjoy and then recover. Well, I had no idea about how many serious conditions you juggle for her. We get to see the success smile.

Thank you very much for the update and please stay safe,
MJ

Lisa I am so glad that Jazzy Jazz Jazmine is stable and that you are so knowledgeable that you can help her with her multiple conditions. Great hiking pictures.

Thank you so much for posting.

Thanks everyone for the great responses! LOL, I got a mixed breed so I could have a healthier dog, but the universe doesn't work that way I guess. It took awhile to understand what her steady state is, but for awhile we are enjoying that. Couldn't have asked for a better hiking partner, and I have to say, I never would have been able to properly train her if I hadn't had Max. He taught me so much gsdhalo

I chuckle because I thought Neb as a mutt would be healthier...was I ever wrong!

^^ yep, funny how that works.

I knew I shouldn't have posted this thread - kinda jinxed things. Jazz has run and yelped a few times today, so we may not be able to hike tomorrow. I suspect it's her neck alignment. Doing a few things, we'll see.

I can't believe its been nine years...I remember when you got her. She's an amazing pup with an amazing Mom. Lisa, your an excellent example of what pet parents go through when we really love these pups. We never give up until we find what helps.
