Update: the peeing continued.

He was peeing, even in the larger hard sided crate, except he was just lying in his own urine. Lots of baths. He'd barely touch anything we put in there with him. He would go in there at night (when it was left open) so it's not the CRATE.

Yesterday the woman two floors up told us she hears him barking. That it's been bad lately (she's also the building busybody, but that's another story).

So - we decided upon drastic action. We had thought to leave him out in our bedroom and hope that he didn't pee on our new bed (that we bought in part due to him peeing on our old one) or drive Xerxes and Neb nuts. Our dog walker said 'What about the second bedroom?' and so I moved a litter box into the kitchen and the dog food bins out into the living room (boy does our place look nice right now, oh well) and the bookshelf out of the second bedroom into our bedroom and his crate into the second bedroom.

And today we left him in there. Our dog walker is back to 2x/day due to all this, so she came super early to try to head off any accidents and he was fine. No accidents all day. Hopefully no barking. We didn't notice any when we left or came home.

We also have a consult scheduled with a veterinary behaviourist for mid-March. And in other news on March 24th we start obedience level 1!

It almost sounds to me like it is being shut in the crate - no option to get out that may be a part of the issue. Have you noticed if he suddenly needs to pee when he gets really excited? With Caleb, we have that behavior and if he gets over-excited he'll go somewhere, either the arm of a couch or the corner of our bed and pee. The only thing that keeps that under to control is to not allow him to get too amped up in the house and he is going on 11.

I think you're right Johanna - it's being shut in. He was fine this week in the second bedroom loose with the other two. He's dribbled when we were redoing the closets and stuff was moving around and he was quite excited by all the activity - but otherwise we haven't noticed that.
