Every once in awhile Kody will get about a 1" long dry spot on his lip. I'm not sure what causes it and forgot to mention it when he got his physical. Do you think this is something I should be concerned about? I've never had a pup that got this. Unfortunately, I've never taken a picture of it so I can't share that.

Rosa, it could be caused by many things. Is it outside or on the edge. Could be an allergic reaction, could be from a toy, could be from left over food. Is it there all the time or does it come an go?

Thanks Val. It comes and goes. Its like that one little inch of his lip dries out sometimes. He's still able to eat and play but when it happens the area is more sensitive to him. I'm thinking next time I should try to apply something but I'm not sure what. I'd like to find something that would moisturize the area that is safe for dogs, any suggestions? I hate to run him to the vet for little things that maybe I can do at home. Next time we do go I'll be sure to mention it, I forgot to mention it last time.

Its in the area on his right side that is loose. I'm wondering if maybe he bites it once in awhile??? I have no idea. I don't think its a sign of anything so I'm not too worried, but I'd like to help him if I can.

Any ideas on what I could apply to a sore lip on a dog? Could I use like a Neosporin that close to the mouth?

I'd think vasiline or other petroleum jelly would be a good "chap stick" for pups. You could probably just get an answer over the phone with the vet.

Back when I lived in Wyoming, BTY1 was getting chapped lips. Finally figured out she was getting frost bite from the horse pupcycles --- Chewing on something frozen did it for her. Maybe the side he sleeps on? or not...

Thanks Middle I'll give that a try. Just a little dab to see if it works. That would be so good if it worked, I'll let you know next time it happens.

I would look for something kinda like Vaseline, but more natural based, like something with bee's wax or even just liquid vitamin E if you are looking for something to apply.

I do wonder if it's a bit like a viral thing. If that's the case, I might consider boosting the vit C in the diet. There is a virus that young dogs can get as their immune system is maturing, but it causes white bumps on the lips, so not the same thing, but vit C is also good for the joints and allergies, so it's not going to hurt anything.

Thanks a lot Lisa. I think you and Middle have the right ideas. Since posting he hasn't had the spot but I'm sure it will happen in the future and I'll be ready. I'll also check out the Vit C and adding that. Thankfully, he's never had white spots but I'll pay extra attention to it when it happens again. If I see white spots I'll take him to the Vet as I want to make sure his immune system is ok. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Rosa, sometimes the magic lies in just talking about it. Sort of like taking the car to the mechanic and it behaves just fine. So let's keep talking....
