Does anyone have an opinion about Honest Kitchen dog food? Positive or negative opinions welcome.

We've been using Honest kitchen as part of Caleb and Ciara's diet since Ciara was a puppy. They've done well on it and we've been happy with the food. The most negative thing I have to say about it is the price.

We recently switched to Only Natural Dehydrated - like this one, which I like because the first 3 ingredients in the list are meat sources and is a lot less expensive compared to Honest Kitchen..

I've never used it so I'm no help. I changed my pups to Victors recently and I'm pretty happy with that,

One other comment about the Honest Kitchen. It is mostly a powder with some chunks of meat and vegetables and you add water to it to re-hydrate it. It forms sort of a gruel (like oatmeal and such) after you add the water. We found with Ciara that sometimes she was iffy about wanting to eat the gruel and we had to experiment with just the right amount of water added so it would be thick enough to suit her. If it was too watery, she didn't want to eat it. So far none of that behavior with the new food, even though you still add a little water to it that seems to make a bit of gravy, the food is not so powdery and is a bit more like a kibble.

Johanna, Thanks again. I had to stop at our local pet store today and asked one of the long-time staff about Honest Kitchen. She suggested adding in a raw food she really likes called Steve's. https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/steves-real-food-raw-frozen/ I meant to ask if they carry Only Natural Dehydrated but couldn't remember the name. headbang

I don't think I'd use the Steve's for my guys. For my dogs, the fat content is a bit too high and I'd be concerned with Ciara who sometimes has problems with too much fat. Other than that it looks like a good food.

I get the Only Natural from Chewy, online. I don't know if they market in stores, maybe Pet Smart?

I think I will look at the Only Natural. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had been using Honest Kitchen as a add in for my guys. I like it but it is expensive.

The Honest Kitchen Zeal has been great for Jazz, but she is on a pretty restricted diet and this one is low enough in fat for her and turns her stools miraculously nearly perfect. The consistency of the food (the "gruel") works for her, but I could see how some dogs might not like it. She is not a big fan of the taste though (I think it's the smell actually), so she will only eat it for one meal a day. They do have a variety of options from a complete meal to add-ins, I think. So, I am definitely a fan of their foods, but I think for a healthy dog, there are other options that may be as good.

UPDATE: I just got back from dog sitting for my daughter and son-in-law. The switch to Honest Kitchen has worked well for their dog. I was concerned since I would be taking care of their boy for almost 3 weeks but for the first time I saw him excited about his food and he gobbled it up. They cook ground turkey as an add in too. If for some reason he gets tired of it or needs a change I will definitely suggest some of the other member's recommendations. thumbup
