I was going to add this to the thread where I mentioned the oral cancer, but I couldn't look for it. I know some of you know as I am on other forums, but I had to let Quinnie go. I didn't go to work and came to Mom and Dad's, and passed out on their couch for a while. I hope they find a cure for this kind of cancer because it was horrible. There is just no way around it. I expected Quinnie to lose the joy of life, that I would know when I should take her in, that she wouldn't try to get up, or couldn't wag her tail, or somehow I would know that it was time.

But she wagged her tail at me today. She lost 14 pounds and for a 53 pound dog that is an awful amount of weight. I waited too long. The vet techs came in to sedate her, and I asked, shouldn't she see the doctor, I was still worried I was jumping the gun. The one vet tech looked at me with disbelief and said, "she's lost 10 pounds, she doesn't deserve to starve to death." That was awful. I know that I failed her, and I know that I didn't, not really. She was eating. She was drinking. She ate today. She was light on her feet. And she was so happy to see me.

I told her how beautiful she was, and how good she was. I sang to her, and held and petted her. I told her how special she was. I told her she'd have to go on ahead of me today. I have other beautiful dogs that I love, and that makes this a little easier. I don't know how I would go home tonight if she was my only critter. But there is a hole in my world right now.

Good dogs have their reward though. She is not suffering now. And I know that God has given us dogs and knows what a magnificent creature they are, and what a magnificent girl she is. And I can picture her with no cancer in her mouth curled up and resting next to Him with His arm on her. And my logical mind says that He can't possibly have that many arms to cradle all the lost dogs in the world, and that He's cradling lost babies and children, but it doesn't matter because she just fits there, she was so very good.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was a great dog and a wonderful friend that will be missed. I think if a Vet tech had said that to me I would have slugged them....sorry, just saying. I'm sorry she made you feel worse as such a difficult time to begin with,

Even though she was very sick, she was still telling you she loved her. That was the message of the wagging tail.
The night before we helped Lacy across the bridge, I wanted one last picture of her with me. I know she was in a lot of pain but she snuggled close and smiled. That just how great these guys are. The undieing love.

You didn't fail her. She knew you both had to adjust to the thought to letting her go. She was good with it.
It's hard no matter what or when. Please don't think you did wrong. ((Many Hugs!))

How rude of that technician. I am very sorry you experienced that.

You did not fail your girl. You gave her a wonderful life and did as much as you could. Try to look back and remember the good times.

Hugs to you.

Thank you everyone. I wish I could say it is better now, but it isn't. It is going to take some time. [Linked Image]

There she with my Babsy, before the cancer. She was my little beauty. I need to get my camera out and take pictures of my other dogs. Ah well.
