I'm confused about Sasha's vaccine schedule. This is what she's had so far

9-18 Neo Par Parvo only 5 weeks of age

10-2 Puppy shot- Canine distemper- Adenoviris
Parainflunza vaccine at 7 weeks

10-26 DHPP Vaccination Booster #2
Canine Influenza Booster 1 of 2
Leptospriosis vaccine 1 of 2
Bordettalla 1 of 2 at 11.5 weeks

11-16 Bordettalla 1 year
Leptospirosis 1 year
Canine Influenza 1 year
DHPP vaccination booster #3 at 13.5 weeks

Now they are saying she needs another DHPP when she gets her Rabies shot on 12-10. But that would mean that she can't go out untilo she's 17 weeks old. That seems like too many DHPP shots??? What do you folks think? It seems like I should be able to take her out now.

Rosa, I follow Dr. Jean Dodds vaccination protocol. This is an interesting article written by her. She compares the AAHA recommendations vs. her recommendations. I don't ever want to under vaccinate, but I think most vets over vaccinate. I have never given my dogs a Bordetella vax. That's normally required in boarding situations, doggie day care, etc.

For my taste, way too many shots. A conservative program to follow is Dodds' that Kris linked and I wouldn't give more than that.

Jazz had her last puppy shots at 6 months, and a rabies shot a month later+. When I titered her at 1 year, she had very high titers, so no booster for her. By puppy shot I just mean her DHPP shot. They did give the flu shot at the shelter and bordatella.

I do not give bordatella, lepto, or flu. Thankfully the daycare accepted her note from the vet. She is 7 years old now and those were her last non-rabies vaccines. I hope to titer her this summer for fun. Jazz is very active, hikes in the mountains, has a 2nd home at daycare with all sorts of different dogs. She had the sniffles maybe a couple times, probably from daycare, and I just gave her some vit C and she was fine in a few days.

One of the most important things we can do for our dogs is learn about the different vaccine protocols, as vaccines can have a lifelong impact on how the immune system behaves.

I also believe that rabies is highly antigenic (required to make sure it keeps rabies away), and I would give no other vaccines within 2 months of that vaccine. Even if you don't wait the two months, I would never give rabies with another vax.
