Nova is one. She has two hours of vigorous walks and lots of ball playing and toy finding in the house. For the last few weeks this has been woefully inadequate. It's like she's on some stimulant-she will come back from a long walk/jog and then race around the house. She play bows and then looks hopefully at her balls. I keep adding time and difficulty to her play and she keeps coming back for more. Her attitude is adorable but it's getting to be too much. Is this a puppy phase? Any suggestions about more demanding activities (our yard is not fenced)..

thanks everybody,
Mary Jane

She is just adding Stamina, I see this happen often. Find more things to challenge her brain. Working her brain will also tire her out. Hide things and make her find them. Treat puzzle toys.

I know it can be difficult but enjoy this time.

My daughter found a page on Facebook that she joined and invited me to. It is a great page with tons of ideas to keep our pups active and challenge them, called Canine Enrichment. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/canineenrichment/

Might be worth looking in to for ideas on keeping her mind busy and help her with all of that energy too!

Thanks Val and Bev. We do a lot of find the toy and to make it harder, I hide two toys and Nova has to find the one named. I also mix fetching the balls with find it and she really loves that. I looked quickly at Canine Enrichment and will go back.

Nova is quite different from Wolf or Mars, so I really appreciate everyone's advice.

Oh how I remember those days with Sean. grin He was approx. the same age as Nova when we adopted him. One thing that helped was meeting a neighbor who had a friendly/playful dog he bonded with so we had regular doggie play dates after our walk(s). Although we have a fenced in yard they back up to an open field and have a huge yard so could run and play to their heart's content. Since you mentioned not having a fenced in yard maybe finding someone who does with a dog Nova enjoys would help. Good luck! crossedfingers

I've got some board games I use with my pups. I'd also use some of this energy to work on training. I know what you mean about the energy but enjoy it as much as you can as they grow up so quickly. What she is going through is completely normal. hugging
