Has anyone use it? Pros? Cons? Also called Robaxin.

Starting to run out of options for Gracie.

Used it as one of 4 meds Risa took after slipping a disc in her back. It was the first one she was weaned off of. Not sure it did much to help. Other medications were certainly more effective in pain management.

In my own experience, muscle relaxers not all that helpful in pain management. I was prescribed some when I had back pain and it didn't help one iota.

*HUGS* to you and Gracie.

It did not work. Made her more unsteady, actually unable to use hind legs.

I'm not sure what you're treating for - is it her back? I know it's a muscle relaxer, but not familiar with it. Have you tried Galliprant? We switched from Carprofen to Galliprant with Sammy and I did notice a big difference. Something else that people swear by is Turmeric Paste. You can google the recipe. This particular mixture was developed by an Australian veterinarian. I can't say that I saw much difference with Sammy, but it's worth a try. How about Adequan injections? They were miraculous for one of my dogs and didn't help with the other. When it works, it works great though.

Great suggestions Kris! I also used Galliprant and Adequin injections will success. Please let us know how Gracie is doing when you have a chance.

Also let us know what your treating, I might have some suggestions based on my experience with Eli.

Hi sorry I haven't been around to answer your questions. Thank you all.

Gracie started the methocarbamol to try to relax her back, she is very tight. After 3 doses she collapsed and couldn't walk. This was on a Sunday afternoon. I called and made "the" appointment, invited friends over to visit with her. My house was a revolving door Sunday night and Monday morning. Our K9 officer friend was here for over 2 hours. He screamed, "her tail moved!!!!!" OMG I started to cry. The vet arrived the next hour and said, "Not today!!!!!!".

Gracie is very wobbly, her tail drags, her hind legs work somewhat and then they drag. She's happy, she's eating, she plays with her squeaky toys laying down. We know every day is a blessing.

She does not go to the bathroom in the house.

We tried Galliprant. We still do adequan injections weekly.

What are we treating? We thought spondylosis, DJD, lumbosacral instability. I firmly believe now we're dealing with DM. frown

Thanks for the update. I'm so glad Gracie is still with us. Eli has DM, its been hard but so worth it. And your right, everyday is a gift to be treasured.

Have no good ideas here, but muscle relaxers are generally on the NO list for human seniors, and I suspect this reaction may have been what you saw in Gracie.

Best of luck in this difficult time.

Thanks Rosa. She had a visitor today who hasn't seen her in a year (last Christmas) and she couldn't get over how she's changed. {hugs}

Jen, I know how difficult this is. Somedays I feel like my heart is just being torn out of my body and stomped on. teary You might want to check out Eli's thread, there may be something there that can help???

I think the hardest part of DM is watching their body give out on them and yet their mind is still bright and cheerful.

I'll keep your little girl in my prayers and hope you have many more good days ahead.

Rosa, her old sitter came by yesterday, hasn't seen her in a year. We went in the backyard and took Gracie's harness off. She drug those back legs around but went after her ball and posed for pictures <3 Had to put the harness back on because she couldn't get to the house to come back inside but it was a great day that warmed our hearts. I posted a new picture in the senior showcase section.
