Fund-raising ideas like contests need an audience to be successful (ie to get the $ to run the board). It seems our audience is pretty small right now and I (skeptic that I am) wonder if a "contest" would draw in more people and for how long? If you had to pay to participate, that would seem also to be less than an incentive to join.

I am willing to pitch in to keep the board going. 1. because there are people here that I would "loose" if it closes including one member that I haven't seen post in months. 2. because it is a "good place" 3. because forums are becoming fewer and fewer and I think they serve a purpose

I think most of us remember the direction the other board took when faced with the founder's decision regarding sustaining the operation. Although it is a business run operation now, I'm not sure how profitable it is. Membership is supposed to get you "ad free" but at least one who has not paid to join doesn't see that many ads or is dumb enough not to recognize that is from whence they come..... As web-hosting, operation costs grow, traffic fades and 'owners' grow weary ---- I don't know what the answer is. The question, though, is How Much Longer?

There's also the growing awareness of caution with financial dealings on the web. I had my own "security" set up with pay-pal that involved a second bank account that was used for next to nothing but that, had a very low balance and therefore presented little financial risk. I haven't done pay pal in several years so that is probably out of commission. On the other hand, unless there's a post office box, I can see individuals not exactly thrilled with the idea of posting their mailing address to get $ the old-fashioned way....I have no idea what type of PIA setting up a credit card on line payment system would be and I imagine with a small operation that would send up some orange caution flags regarding security there.

Crap this gets complicated. [And I would think tracking membership would just be another burden --]

I don't think I have offered any real solution except "ask us for money and tell us how to get it to you in a few different waysl"

---Just had another thought on fund raising --- relating to the calendar ---- how stupid would it be to have it so that people who entered the contest that year could customize their calendar by choosing the entries they want on the calendar? So there would be one "winners" calendar, and every one who entered could customize their calendar.... Might be an incentive for the contest, too.

OK I need to get off the board...

Answer to the Question How Much Longer? I am hoping for many years yet. I have the main domain name paid until 2023, so I wasn't planning on throwing in the towel.

Answer to Payment Options. The Forum software is set up to accept PayPal and Check or Money Order. I do have a PO Box that I use for my business. I also just Opened a Stripe account so I could learn how that works in this situation.

Answer to [And I would think tracking membership would just be another burden --] The forum software is set up to do membership levels and paid memberships. So that tells you that many forum owners have gone to the subscription model.

Answer to relating to the calendar ---- how stupid would it be to have it so that people who entered the contest that year could customize their calendar by choosing the entries they want on the calendar? So there would be one "winners" calendar, and every one who entered could customize their calendar.... Might be an incentive for the contest, too. Good idea as long as the customized calendar was from the winner's that I already have the Image work done. You could tell me months 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 9 10 12. I would have to do a little tweaking on the text.

It would be sad times if we didn't have our home on the net. I would be more than happy to pay for a membership. I may not be much of a thread starter but I enjoy reading and commenting.

Hey wassup, I know everyone's now got Elton John's the Bitch is Back playing in their head. If you don't, you should.

Haven't the time to read all the threads. Look at Inmotion Hosting - you're going to get a much much better price out of them. I'll hook a sister up because I've used them for years for many many different people. It does seem painful as a concept to move your site but really, inmotion will do all that for you. For about $150 every other year.

Hey Jenn,

Welcome back.

The hosting includes Tech help from the Techie Dude SD. If the Forum crashes, he fixes it. So worth the price. The biggie this year was the $440 dollar upgrade, but I didn't update the software since we opened. Had to now to get in compliance with the https and a bit more mobile friendly, plus plugging up some huge hacking areas.

Just wanted to get an update on this Val as its important to a lot of us. Are the key chains in route? So you have any other suggestions for those of us that want to help?

Rosa Thank you for bringing this up again.

Key Chains are on that slow boat from China. Looking at buying the blanks bulk and having the Laser Engraving done here in the state. Initial Order is still 25 - 30 days before the blanks arrive. But once here then the turn around time would be much faster.

I can start a new thread with PayPal link and maybe a Stripe link if people want to direct donate instead of buying products.

Fun PillowCase Set Also for the GSD Mafia Members there is a set also.
