Doe's anyone have any experience in using steroids on our dogs? The goal is to improve Eli's muscle mass which might help him to get up, walk, maybe even help with the fecal incontinence??

If you were considering steroids what would you want to know ahead of time? What would your questions be for the Vet and what, research would you do on your own?

Are you aware of any cases where steroids have helped or hurt?

Any other thoughts you might have.... please share

I've used the eye drops for two dogs. Helped with the eye condition whose scientific name I can't remember.

I forget which one it is that they commonly give dogs but also use in humans - tried it for poison ivy on me once. Mood altering ugly stuff. (I'm crabby enough without it.)
I guess that would be a concern I would have.

Hi Rosa,

Here's a link to PetMd about 7 uses of steroids in dogs:
https://www.petmd.com/dog/general-health/7-types-steroids-dogs

The most common is what middle referred to-things like cortisone are used for allergies or for immunosuppression. I think what your new vet mentioned are anabolic steroids-think body builders. They promote weight gain and during exercise can build muscle. This article says they are not used much anymore.

Maybe this will help you continue to do the best in every way for Eli.

Thanks for the feedback and information. I've basically made my decision to try the steroids on Eli and will update his thread now. Thanks again.
