There was a suggestion made and I thought I would post it as a Poll.

A - Leave Photo Contest as it is with Winner selecting the next month's theme.

B - Winner to select a photo and people would get to post a Caption for the Photo.

C - Or Winner gets to Select A or B

Vote on the Poll or Make an Alternative Suggest. I would like to see more participation on the Photo Contest.

One thing I've thought of is allowing a series of photos or maybe two per member? Or one per member dog?

Or allowing a story to accompany the photo? Or maybe redacting the member name altogether?

I have found the contest a lot of fun, something of a challenge as I try to find a digital copy of the "right" photo, or I hurry out and encourage the dogs to do something appropriate. ...

Here's my take on things. I would like to see more involvement too. One thing I would like to see changed is when we show the number of votes each picture got. Perhaps we can keep the scale but eliminate the actual numbers??? We all want our pictures to be popular and I feel bad whenever I see a picture only got one vote. Maybe we could be able to vote for the top two and that way the votes would be spread around better. One vote can be used for our own picture and one for another picture, who knows who would win then.

I also like Middle's idea of allowing a couple of pictures instead of one, and allowing a cute caption.

We could also start a thread of cute ideas for topics. That way if the winner is having a hard time choosing they could use the list for ideas.

Another thought is allowing other breeds in the contests. Not sure how others feel about that but we have a lot of senior members here that don't have a German Shepherd Dog right now. How about allowing them to post their dogs pictures too even though they are not a GSD?

I really like this idea. Often times I don't participate due to not knowing a good theme should I win.

OK - how about a change up every so often?
Or the winner gets to choose what sort of contest (with Val's approval)

I understand what you are talking about, but there is no reasonable way to make the numbers disappear, short of spending around $100 to have someone modify the code that controls the Polls.


I could set the poll up to allow 2 votes.


We could allow multiple photos. A Caption would work better than a Story, remember these are the pictures that are used for the Calendar.


We could start a thread for Photo Contest Topics.


I like that idea but I think we need more input from the members before we do that. We use to have separate contests called "Mixing It Up" that we would have a couple times a year, some times it was dogs, some times cats, or other critters.

So here is what I will make happen right away.
1. Set up a Thread for Photo Contest Ideas.
2. Allow 2 votes per member. I believe that you would have to use both choices at once. I don't think you could use one choice and then go back and vote again.
3. We can Test Allowing 2 pictures per contest. You can post both of them in one post or in separate posts.

I don't want to see every moth a Caption This Photo Contest.

As Far as allowing Non GSD's like I said I like the idea, but I would like to see what more members think.

I think this is an excellent idea. I remember when there was a separate contest called, "Mixing It Up." As Rosa said, there are more members who have mixed gsd or other breeds than when the board was originally established.
