Thanks Lisa, for everything. He is such a great owner that he is really taking it hard. He is stressing himself out my sister says by wondering how he got into that stuff. He has no clue, especially that amount of it. I am keeping my fingers crossed here, but it does not sound good.

I thought they were supposed to have changed the anti-freeze formulas so that they were not tastefully attractive to animals anymore???????? I just read this, this in the last 6-8 months.
This is just horrible ... and unfortunately a very hard lesson to any of us ... if you aren't comfortable with what your vet tells you and if waiting to see if something works doesn't feel comfortable - go get another opinion.
We are thinking of King and his family ... maybe the e-vet can work a miracle or two? Hope so!

Yeah, difficult to diagnose, but his kidney numbers should have been skyrocketing. I don't know how any minimally competent vet with the simplest of lab equipment wouldn't have discovered that. At the very least, King would not have been in so much misery and pain the last two weeks. His owner would have had some inkling what was going on, and if King doesn't make it, his owner could have been preparing himself for the worst. Ideal? No, but humane to the animal and compassionate to the owner. I'll keep both of them in my prayers. Miracles do happen. These guys sound like they're a wonderful team. Let's pray they get what they deserve -- a miracle.
It is much more difficult when the ethylene glycol first reaches the liver because early in this stage the pet will appear healthy while later in this stage symptoms are multisystemic and nonspecific. We often confuse these signs with other diseases such as pancreatitis, acute gastroenteritis, diabetes or other forms of kidney disease. By the time ethylene glycol metabolites have attacked the kidneys it is too late for a cure. By this time the animal is very sick from uremia and acidic blood (acidosis).

He is still critical, he was rushed to Guelph last night/early this morning. I just spent 1 hour talking with King's owner and I believe he will be going tomorrow morning to the clinic to say his goodbyes if things do not change. His kidney levels (?) are in the highest range, the vet at Guelph said they are almost 10x's what they should be.
The first vet.. well, he will be introuble. The owner has all the lab results and apparently they were correct, the vet either did not read them properly or looked at the wrong ones when diagnosing. An investigation will be held according to my friend.
It still does not sound good and King and his owners need a miracle tonight if there is any hope.
Thank you everyone.

I have not heard anything as of yet.
I am waiting for King's owner to come to me, I do not want to intrude if things did not go well.
I will keep you posted here and thank you very much for thinking of them both.
I hope with all my heart that a miracle happened last night. I do not want to loose this dog, he is such a wonderful spirit and I know "our group" will miss him very, very much.

poor King. I really hope a miracle happens. Sounds like such a sweet boy. And as for that vet....if it was my dog he would have messed up on, someone would have to get me out of jail. Come on King.... please get better. And let us know any news on him. to you neighbor

Oh that is horrible. All the investigations in the world won't help King but maybe the next dog will get better care.
Hoping the best for King.

Gah this makes me sick. I had a dog that was poisoned by antifreeze intentionally...I never caught the person but there's a special place in hell for people like that! The vet should have caught this...a dog acting like that should be told "oh just go home and see how it pans out" especially if they had the test results in black and white in front of their face. Accidents happen, but with a dog with those symptoms, they should have been more thourough. Poor King! And his poor owner, it's horrible enough to know your dog was poisoned, but to know your vet overlooked/ignored a vital piece of info will make it even worse...I hope he doesn't blame himself.

Thanks everyone. No news yet, I am hoping this is a good sign and that they are discussing treatment options and such. I do know that money is playing a factor here as well, as the owner only has so much to spend and the vet bill is now over $2000.00 only since Monday morning. That is without the cost of the "vet" who missed the diagnosis in the first place too. Rob is blaming himself for not taking him to Guelph sooner. He trusted his vet and thought maybe it was a cold or virus that was running it's course. This dog is watched like a hawk and so he has no clue how King got into this. I know he was headed to the vet first thing this morning to see where his levels were and to see how he was doing. He hasn't eaten anything since Sunday and only was eating bits here and there for the few days prior. The owner is hoping that King seeing him will help him eat. He is brining him his prepared meals (I cooked last night for him) which was: double boiled rice boiled chicken mashed sweet potatoe and a hard boiled egg, mashed The vet at Guelph okayed this and said he just needs to eat and if he wanted a hamburger he could have that, they just want food into him right now. It does not sound good at all, and I am still very much hoping that he pulls through this. The first vet is being investigated and things were reported today to the association. This I know from a neighbour who helped King's owner. It is times like this that I am greatful for "our group". We are all doing what we can to help King and his owner through this. We are coming together, I knew we cared for one another's dogs and had fun training and playing together but it is times like this when you realize how great some people are. My sister and I live away from our family (a few hours) so having people like this around us makes us feel like we have some family out here. We are hoping for Kings recovery and for Rob's (King's owner) lifelong friend to pull through. Please keep sending good vibes out there for the both of them. They need it. Thank you everyone!

King crossed the bridge this morning... he will be missed terribly by all who knew him. http://www.germanshepherdhome.net/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=34732&#Post34732Rob, the owner of King, wanted me to post this for everyone to read: "i wanted to take the time to say thankyou to everyone who thought about us. we took care of eachother and he was a special boy. i am feeling lost right now but i know that it was the best choice for King and i. thankyou to everyone who suggested a test or treatment option they were listened to. king will be waiting for me and his pack of friends when we cross. i will see him again. thankyou." Rob was very greatful when I emailed him this thread. Thanks to everyone for once again being awesome! RIP King.
