I'm just so sorry you have to be dealing with this. I had awful neighbors for awhile and its so hard to get anything done to stop them. Keep us posted.

Wow, Middle, this is like a nightmare. So sorry to read you are going through this. You are right, with all the problems going on around us nationwide, who needs a lunatic like this around the corner. Gheez.

Here's the latest - got the restraining order today. The judge was not happy to be dealing with the boy again so soon. Got it so he has to use a different street to access his property - he can't drive along the one that fronts my place but needs to use the other one. My neighbors owe me for that one.

It hasn't been served yet - he will get the citation on his dogs and the restraining order served at the same time. Any noise from him & he goes to jail. That ought to cool him off for a bit.

Middle, be careful. I'm somewhat concerned for the safety of you and your dogs.

I admire how you have taken care of all that has been going on.

Thanks for the kudus.

Got a call from the deputy. (Hey this guy is good) Neighbor (40 yo) has been served - with citation for dogs and restraining order - of course he is not exactly happy but, ya know, his actions have not made me happy. All the authorities in the county (OK it's a big county with a small population) know this family and especially this one. The recent thing is that his 70 yo mother (who is also my neighbor) got arrested for robbery and spent a couple of weeks in lock up.

My thoughts are: If you let jerks intimidate you, they will continue to intimidate you and others. Not good. (I think that is part of what has happened with my neighbor) My mother's "Ignore them and they will go away" is not an effective strategy. On top of that, it had to be done because a neighbor routinely screaming curses at me is not acceptable. And stress producing. So it had to stop. This is the vehicle I have to shut it down. I am happy to have it although frustrated to learn, despite what I was told, that I could have shut it down months ago.

I think I am OK because he cannot near my property or me without going to jail for it - and they will take him in. He might ignore fines but the thoughts are he does not want to go back to jail.

I am glad you have protection in the sense of him going to jail. Really sucks that over is not quite over.

And wow, what a winning family. I am toying around with what I want to do when I retire in about 7 years. Not sure I have the guts to move, but sucks to think you might find a great spot and then have to deal with stuff like this.

I'm with you though, you have to stand up to the bullies. Just be careful. When we had dog neighbor wars here, I really worried about my dogs. But we were all fine and luckily they eventually moved. Sure wish yours would move too!

Well, yes, a winning family. In this long stream of dialog about the situation, I failed to "share" with "all y'all" that during the two weeks or so of quiet up here the woman (now 70) was in jail for robbery or attempted robbery. There's more, of course to this wackiness but hey!

Hopefully, I'll get the paperwork straightened out tomorrow and quiet will persist. Yesterday was good although I wasn't home much.

SHeesh! More irrationality decends!! It was quiet for sooo long (maybe all of two weeks)-- but he's baaack! It wasn't him or likely not him anyway but his buddy most likely - twilight after a short horse ride around the property - walking the dogs. Dog from across the road charges my fence while being urgently called "Dennis! Come!" We all know how that goes. Too dark to see which dog it is but.....I am Confronted with "I'll ask you nicely What are you doing?" repeated when I don't answer. Thinking to myself, you jerk, what does it look like? "I'm walking my fence line " I get accused of antagonizing "our dogs" and a bunch of blabber about my property, my fence must have a hole in it, he'll fix it for me if I'll show him where, I must want the dogs on my property or I'd fix my fence.... All pretty unhinged since his property is across the road from mine, my dogs are on my property, these dogs charge across the road from their property to mine, etc. Sigh.
Now I'll admit that I was awakened at 3 something AM this morning from equipment trying to move something across the street. I was awakened because I could here it from inside with my windows closed and BTE 2nd wanted me to know something weird was going on. Thanks. Both to the dog and the neighbor.

If the situation weren't tragic and threatening, it would be humorous. A detective got in touch with me today (phone tag) The neighbor tried to accuse me of stealing his dog. ... The detective knows this is silly as he has his dog, I do not. Neighbor also wanted me restricted from walking on parts of my property and walking on sections of the road that runs in front of my property (between our properties). The detective told him that he could not do that but that the neighbor was prohibited from using the road. The neighbor was not happy with that response. ... But I am. wink!

The saga continues -
I sat in on a court session where he was up for a pre-trial conference. That was put off until this Wednesday because all the local attorneys (public defender types I think) were "conflicted" - which probably means they've dealt with him before.

The dog issues go back to court January 5.

However, the other issue (yes, there is another one) involves him screaming curses. My dogs think I need to be inside and awake and aware when this happens. He's something like 400 feet away (probably more like 500) from my house yet can be heard quite clearly, often with the doors and windows shut. This morning it started about 7:45 or 7:30. I do not think these are directed at me - but likely either his gf or mother.

This is too frequent to continue.

I just made my guardians get off my feet and out from under the computer - it wasn't easy. the Barker Sisters 2d think I need protecting. I think he needs shut down.

For those of you thinking of moving in retirement (or any time) - perhaps a check with law enforcement/court records would clue you in. I didn't have any reservations, so I didn't check.,.

The view from my house is terrific though. I do have good neighbors except for the one place.

Thanks for the tip, we'd love to move but have too much "stuff." I guess the saying, one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel is definitely true. Good luck this Wednesday and again on Jan. 5th.

I haven't shared every thing here but.... It has continued - repeated court dates about the dogs, repeated court dates about his felony offense but he has managed to keep that at bay (changing attorneys! reschedule! change attorney...)

Last Friday he missed court for the last dog offense. Judge had the clerk review what was going on as how many times this citation had been issued and what the fines had been. I don't know quite what she hit him with but it was more than $50 because all the fines had gone to collection and this had been on-going. One of the deputies told me that the mother was living with a different son in another county and the problem son was removed from the property and not to be there. Don't know where he is.

Unfortunately, I discovered yesterday that the mother is back in jail. Long story. Sad story. House is rumored to be seriously trashed. But all has been quiet for two weeks. Not yet time to celebrate but for now it's quiet.
