Update:
As of this morning Dante got his second dose of Gabapentin and it's obviously helping.

He has not cried at all today, he brought me the Nylabone this morning when I got up and just now while outside he brought me a stick (which I of course did not throw for him rofl ).
If he continues to improve I may have to restrict him to on leash outside which I haven't had to do previously as he was doing it himself.

He does still sleep a lot, he's curled up now on his bed after our short time outside but I can deal with this so much better than how he has been.

His gait is still off, there is obviously something off with the right hind side.

Dante just trotted around the yard with a limb in his mouth (been really windy here the last couple of days, nothing huge has come down but lots of branches off my Dawn Redwood laying around my backyard).

Don't get me wrong, I know there is something seriously wrong with him still but it is SO GOOD to see the light back in his eyes!!!

I am glad that he is feeling better! I would be very careful about allowing so much movement though. If this is serious enough, there are some conditions where this could make things worse, and the pain meds are just masking things. If this is just a misalignment, then the movement, With the pain removed, isn't nearly as dangerous. That he is able to move with the pain masked is definitely a good sign though!

Thanks all, just getting ready to take him and drop him off. We don't have an appointment today, Dr Skinner is going to do his evaluation as time allows.

Dante lost his footing in the kitchen last night and held up the right hind for a bit but didn't scream or cry.

I got a great suggestion on FB to get Yoga mats to make a walkway across the kitchen to the back door so I'll be shopping for those this weekend.

Barb, some folks make a little bootie out of vet wrap too. It lasts 4 or 5 days.

Hope to hear some good news this evening.

Well I guess we're not leaving quite yet.
The back of the Explorer is frozen shut!

I can't even turn the handle to open the back hatch so I have it running and locked up with the heat turned on full blast. Hopefully this won't take too long!

Thanks for the tip Kathy!!!

Barb - Get out your hair dryer. That will thaw you out. Lots of experience with this crap here. At least your door lock (if your car still has them) wasn't frozen shut.

smile I don't own a blow dryer!!

It's tough with weather like the ice/freezing rain/etc we got yesterday and last night. If I had turned the Explorer around to protect the back then the front doors probably would have been frozen shut.

Maybe someday I'll own a house with a garage?
smile

Yes it was Lori with the Yoga mats!

It thawed and Dante is dropped off.
It's not been the best morning for Dante, more pain than since he started on the Gabapentin.

He also walked into the waiting room and promptly pooped blush
We had been outside several times this morning and he just wouldn't poop...I guess he told us what he thinks of all of this rofl

Now it's just wait...

Poppp problems come with spine problems too, so I'm sure they are used to that there!

If things were bad enough for him to knuckle, then the meds were just masking pain and not improving anything, and something is very wrong. Usually they recommend an antiinflammatory and strict rest - maybe if they are thinking more diagnostics, they may not have wanted to alter things. Even a chiro will do this too, because it's hard to adjust if there is a lot of inflammation. But it can be a catch 22, becaause if the dog is not walking because there is a misalignment or bulging disk, then they need an adjustment to help interfere with the inflammatory process.
