Greetings! I was here quite a bit about a year + ago with the issues we were having with our then new GSD, Van. Since that time, life has been in an upheaval, we have moved, my mom was very ill, and we are now finally settled. But, alas life hasn't settled down! Van turns three this December! smile

Just wanted to reintroduce myself, and let you all know that Van and hubby are fine now. He does still bark at him at first but then is ready for hugs and loves. His trainer and I have just decided he is weird and quirky, and guess what, thats OKAY! smile He is amazing and we love him to death.

We actually just rescued another GSD, a petite 1 yr old female (underweight too)named Daenereys... yes from Game of Thrones (Dani for short). She was used to the name and it is kinda cool, so we kept it! Intros are going okay so far. I do see Van asserting himself as alpha, as she is still a pup so to speak and wants to play sometimes when Van is over it for the moment, and thats okay. When I see her irritating him, I separate them and give everyone breathing room. We are watching them like hawks and giving them plenty of down time separated (and of course whenever we are gone), and she sleep s with my daughter while Van, of course, is in with hubby and me, or with the kids.

Anyway, just a hello! And any positive vibes for us as the intros continue. They play and have a blast together, and I have never seen hackles on either of them. I just sometimes am like, COME ON, are you playing or trying to hurt eachother!? When they get rough housing like that I calm them down, too, as I have seen that go bad with other dogs (not ours. Heightened excitement is not too good when trying to avoid anything that could cause conflict!

Any addition suggestions for us? Thanks! Glad to be back online and settled so I can catch up with everyone!

Thanks to you all. They are getting along well, I just am not used to Van acting like the Big Kahuna... other than the barking at Dave and well, people who come to the door unannounced, he is a big teddy bear lol and he is truly letting her know who is boss when she gets to be too much.

So glad to hear that things with DH and Van have worked themselves out!

Hard to say without knowing the dogs, and it might not be an entirely alpha thing. If she is over the top for him, he might be a bit annoyed, or staying on guard to some degree. My girl only used to act alpha to Max when he was being a jerk (loved that jerk a lot), otherwise she was relaxed. So there might be something more than "acting alpha" going on. Just a thought, not sure if there is any validity to it.

She's a beauty smile

Great point Lisa, and I think you are definitely onto something. A lot of the time when he reacts to her, it is when she is like "play with me!!! Play with me!!!" and he is done. No hackles or ears back or anything, just a little warning sound if that makes sense? Like right now he is laying at my feet, she is wandering around and comes over now and then and they share kisses then she walks off again....

With some active management, so that he knows you have his back, it sounds like they are going to make a great pair!
