Sherman... you were such a grand old chap, you really were. It is because of you that I want to welcome a senior into my home when I am able to love and cherish in their final days. You truley are an angel now and I wish you the most peace in your new journey.

I have applied to foster older dogs and it is because of Sherman and Nannie Millie.

Elisabeth and Mary Jane, and all other compassionate senior-loving people, new and old:

"You make Shermie, very proud grampy."

"Wait..a..minute. I thought you were...dead already."

"I think Sherman has some explaining to do."

"Maybe it's time for master Matsi to get involved here."

"And I know just where to start."

"Bingo."

"Ok, where have you been? We're all listening, Sherm."

"Not ALL of us."

"Remember the day recently when we all hung out in Squantum?"

"At first, it seemed like a very typical day at the beach."

"Not for me, Sherm. I knew SOMETHING didn't feel right that day."

"Especially when you lay motionless on your back, eyes locked on the sky."

"Sophie has good instincts, as that was the day I learned about my latest calling."

"C'mon guys, if we climb high enough, maybe we'll figure out who was calling me."

"I swear, Matsi, someone hollered my name up here."

"Maybe Matsi wants to buy into your ludicrous hallucinations oh crazy one, but I'm taking a break."

"I believe you Sherm. Don't worry, I'll figure this one out. I always do."

"Listen, Matsi, now I hear strange chattering."

"You go one way, and I'll go the other. One of us is bound to meet up with THE VOICE."

"THERE you are...So when am I leaving and how will I know it's time?"

"Who are you talking to, Sherm?"

"That was THE VOICE...the angels...they're making my new wings and flying me home soon!"

"So now I've only got a little more LEG time here on earth."

"There he goes Matsi. Still believe him?"

"I think I'll plead the fifth on this one, and wait and see."

I'm on the edge of my seat, all wrapped up in the story, the characters, the feelings. Time stands still when we're taken into the world of your animals, Donna, through these magnificent, captivating photo journals.

I want to cry... I want to cheer. These stories have so much wonder and mystery, but always with the loving support of friends. Thank you for sharing these, Donna!

Oh Shermie, you continue to make such a powerful, healing impact. More seniors will be rescued, taken from cold shelter cells to warm and loving homes because of your story. More adopters bringing seniors in means so much more warmth and richness in the lives of their adopters. Everyone wins. bloomrose

"Ah, finally, time for a nice nap."

"Uh-oh. I recognize those voices."

"I'll be right there, dear friends."

"Time to go."

"SO, I heard today was the big day, when Sherman surrenders himself. We'll see."

"And....there he IS."

"Dear earth friends. Another angel is needed to watch over homeless seniors & I've been chosen."

"Helloooooo?"

"I am ready for my wings now."

"Where did he go?"

"He just disappeared into the clouds. I don't know what to make of this."

"I am an ANGEL now, silly, here to watch over my earthly charges."

"Hey, wait a second, that's MY ball you disappeared with!!!"

"Chalk one up to the gramps!"

"Quick, someone ask him if he's seen Nannie Millie yet."

"Not seen her yet, sweet little Lucy."

"She may be somewhere on earth right now, as I will be, watching over my protégés."

"SO dear friends, have no fear, Shermie's still here, albeit angel, and feel certain, I'LL BE BAACK."

"Looking forward to it. YEA, RIGHT."

Wow, I thought Nannie's story moved me (and it does every time I read it), but this is even more so.

I need shares in a tissue factory after coming back to Shermie's story teary I am so pleased he stole the ball, that made me laugh. That "Bingo" photo is breathtaking. I am going to chase up the rescue on Monday.

Maybe a movie this time Donna, based on your evocative stills.

something like

How Shermie got his Wings.

Truly, though, your pictures and text are inspiring and comforting at the same time.

thank you,
Mary Jane

I'm glad so many have enjoyed the adventures of Shermie Bear, and Mary Jane and Elisabeth are considering a senior. Fortunately, we have many senior rescues on this forum to help pave the way for other homeless seniors, helping anyone on the fence envision the possibilities.

Bianca, Matsi is still stewing over that ball. Shermie really pulled a fast one this time!

Mary Jane, no movie on the horizon, but if I thought it would help save more seniors...

Johanna, so far, every senior I've ever brought here has moved me as well. I'm very grateful to have a platform to show their true characters and capabilities.

Patti, I'm certain he is using his new wings to watch over his good friend, Grimm, and as always, love your colorful responses. When you gonna' write your book?

Mary Ann, you can bet Angel Sherm will be flying close to his girlfriend, Cheyenne, on her day of surgery. I truly admire the way you have stepped up for Cheyenne, and so many others along the way.

Kris, my seniors have been blessed with your input and support over the years. You have been a consistent figure in their lives, and have done remarkable work with your own, Max and Murphy, rip.

And also, I just read through the entire thread again, and want to also thank Sara D, Sarah J, Sylvie, Schnickle, Charlotte & Maxwell, Qyn, Poohbearsdad, LisaT, Val, Cheryl, Elisabeth, Ruth, Jean & remarkable pakistan, DianeD, Katherine, Bonnie & Moses, Karen B, Robin, LAM, Ashley, Dawn S, Karen, Diana H, Shelby, Vanessa...so many with great advice, funny input, comforting words, similar tales...

I want to especially thank Val for offering such a comfortable, (and very creative) place to profile homeless shepherds and their rescue stories.
