Hi there,

My sister has some agility equipment and her dog is trained in agility. She's going to be teaching me how to do this and she told me I need soft treats.

What do you use or what are your suggestions for suitable soft treats?

Thanks!

Wellness Chicken & Venison soft treats are great! I don't do agility but I do use those treats. They are very easy to break into teeny tiny pieces.

small cubes of cheese...like 1/4"

thin slices of hot dog or sausage, or liced & cubed meat dog food roll available @ pet store, usally hanging like sausage on a display tree near pet food.

point is small and soft, so easily and quickly consummed, scarfed or gulped, nearly no chewing time required, to stay on task.

I get the feeling they're really not going to even taste the goodies going down, LOL!

Ditto. Also, as I mentioned in another thread, cat kibble is a good training treat (although it isn't soft).

I do purely recreational agility with one of mine. Why does it specifically have to be a soft treat? Just curious.

The crunchy treats take longer to eat, so they say. Mine usually just swallow them.

I actually use kibble for Havoc as he has allergies and cannot eat much other stuff.

Zuke's Mini Natural's are good! They are small, but I even cut them in half, so they are tiny, and soft and chewy. Glory likes the Peanut Butter and the Chicken.

I don't like working with hot dogs because you either have to microwave them or they get your hands slimey. It has been my experience that the smell is the most important factor because sometimes you have to use the smell to get their attention when they get distracted, puppies especially. This is what I like to use.

No prep...
-Zukes mini naturals
-Soft cat treats

Requires prep but cheaper...
- Natural balance treat roll cut into bite size pieces
- Any soft treat broken or cut into small pieces

I microwave the hotdogs to the point where they are almost dark brownish-black. They STINK which is great.. lol.

I use the Zukes as well but find that Stark gets bored of them quickly.

Yeah... the hotdog stink. Can't handle it. It is worse than the slime. It is totally worth the extra cost to me to buy the commercial ones.

Hahaha.. I do have to open all my windows when I make them though.

I also make my own liver treats - I hate the smell of liver too... yucky! But Stark LOVES it!
