Lies, I revisited the dose with Cynthia too, she does somethng similar to you too and does not give 1cc per 10 pounds. It is the lower.1 or so.
Whne I had my first 2 GSD's I gave the 110 pounder .5 cc and the 70 pound female .25 cc also. I had to really think back in time for that.

I am switching to Trifexis as well. Right now they have $10 off 6 and $25 off 12. Getting some good tips here. Heartworm is one area I will not try to stretch out. Too prevelant in Ohio.

So far as heart worm meds, I would use what works safely for your dog and what is effective in your area. The worms are fatal, the medicine is nasty. Any of it. This is not where I would look to economize while I am living in the South. The potential for a reaction or a failure to protect -- either one is going to wipe out your savings in a heck of a hurry.
For cutting costs, the most effective thing I know is to ask myself 1) do I need it? 2) do I want it? 3) if I need it, do I need it now? 4)is this the best price? 5) Is driving 5 miles out of my way to get the bargain going to save anything?
My big downfall is a bargain. Anticipating a major move in a few years has helped cut down on that!

If you dose ivermectin correctly and have a dog that does not have the MDR1 mutation there's no more risk than getting products from a vet. Yes you save money but you can actually dose far more accurately than a Heartgard tablet (which dose is now so low that dogs have still developed heartworms on it). Instead of a very low dose tablet for a dog that weighs 51-100lbs (that's a big range, the weight doubles! So a dog at the high end of the range is getting half the micrograms per pound, hmmmm) I'm dosing an effective amount of the active ingredient for a dog that weighs his exact weigh. There is potential for reaction whether you use liquid ivermectin or Heartgard, either way you'd have to rule that out. There's not potential for failure to protect because the dose is far more accurate. Even though I don't live in the south, when I volunteered at the shelter it seemed like 1/3 of the dogs were HW+ so there's no way I'm risking my dog getting it because the companies who sell commercially available preventatives have it dosed so low so they don't get sued when people give it to their MDR1 dogs.

Well just ordered a year supply of Trifexis for Kayos from Australia. Free shipping on US orders over $120
From my vet it would have been $253. Cost me $160 from Australia. Never even considered going to Australia for meds.
I have been using Vectra 3D for ticks but decided to go with K9 Advanix II. I got 12 doses for $121 from Foster and Smith. It was the same from Australia. And I got free shipping. I still have some Vectra 3D too.
So, I will purchase liquid Ivermectin this weekend and I will have the dogs set for a year.
I still need to work on joint stuff for Kayos and Havoc. I have always used store brand acidophillus and Fish Oil so that won't change.
