Remember this: If it doesn't match the other one that is only cosmetic. She's alive and healthy so what if she has a funky ear?

That aside -- Barker the Elder had a hematoma develop. I went to the regular vet, we got the "quilt", it healed fine & the ear stood fine.

With antibiotics consider the possible need for something like yogurt as a probiotic.

My Max had a hematoma in his ear that had to be lanced and stitched. At first it looked normal, but as it healed it did curl up some. I kept calling the vet asking if I should tape or put something inside the ear to hold it. I had a lot of ideas, which he said I could try, but it wouldn't make a bit of difference - the ear would do what it wants when it healed. And he was so right. Here's what Max's ear looked like.

I must admit that at first I was disappointed, but then I figured what the heck - it gave him character! After a while, I didn't even notice it.

I hope Ember doesn't have the same thing happen, but it's definitely a possibility and more than likely, a probability (according to what I was told, experienced and seen in dogs over the years with ears that have been lanced). Not trying to be pessimistic - just realistic. Better to start thinking about that inevitablity now and then if the ear doesn't change, you'll be elated!!

Ugh. Outside for the 5th time in 6 hrs. She immediately squatted to pee, urine was pretty normal looking, then she walked a few paces, squatted again and left a couple of drops of pink. Nice.

I'd call the vet in the morning, make sure those are the right abx, let them know, etc. - probably a long night ahead frown

Awww poor Ember. I am sorry to read this Sara. I wouldn't prop the ear but a lot of people swear by gelatin as something to give to help a weak ear stand. Just the unflavored powdered gelatin, Knox or that kind. It couldn't hurt.

I am sleeping on the couch to keep an eye on her and so far so good. No whining to go out or bothering her ear, just sleeping!

WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She looks GREAT...not fat...and really, not underweight either.

I think we all see too many fat dogs these days that when we see one that is actually at a healthy/working weight we think their too skinny! smile

The only reason I think she is a little too skinny is because her hips are really bony and her ribs are pretty visible. I would like to see about 3 more lbs on her.

All I can say is that I wish someone would feed me a measured amount twice a day with no treats....

All seems well today. She's not whining to go out (good since it's like -25) and when she does, everything looks normal. Snow makes it pretty easy to tell!

Poor baby. They look so painful too. Siena had the surgery a couple of years back. I recommend you keep the collar on the whole time. It can be damaged very easy and needs to drain and you want to keep her from scratching it too. I can't find my pics of Siena, but her ears are just fine. She had the hematoma about almost 3 years old...
