Just checking in. I had hoped to put together a post for his rememberence thread, but his earliest photos are on film, and I need to find a few to scan. He looked so different then, compared to his last days, with the weight gain from the cancer.

Had to go to a family thing yesterday, so didn't get a chance to get to the pictures. Stopped at a petsmart since I knew one of the GSD rescues would be there - thought I'd see what kind of mixes they had. It was a very very very bad idea. I'll leave it at that.

Ruth's story hits home, because if it's the right dog, it won't matter.

Oh Lisa...just reading this...I am so very sorry my dear friend!! Also..want to say...when Mya died I had a very difficult time looking for another dog. People would send me beautiful dog postings...but it just wasn't....her. Cheyenne found me. Oddly...she wasn't the type of dog I would have adopted if I was truly picking my dream dog....yet...she ended up being perfect in every way. It's amazing how life works.

Hugs my friend

Myamom, thank you. I know how hard it was when Mya died so suddenly, I know you understand hugging

I am hoping that the right pup finds their way to me somehow...it was great the way that Cheyenne found you!

Last week, I still alternated between numb and distraught. I find that a third phase has crept into the rotation, and that's anger. It's not really reasonable, but it's there frown

With Indy, I felt as if someone had put their hand in my chest, ripped out my heart, and shred it into tiny pieces, it/I was so broken. With Max, I just feel empty and lost, maybe my heart had not healed enough to be broken as before, or maybe it just broke a little at a time, as he was so sick for so many months.

I am so happy that in his last months, he knew how many people cared for him, and enjoyed his being at work.

Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about Max. This really sucks. I suppose the why or the how doesn't matter in the way we lose our dogs, in the end it will result in a broken heart. Still, a risk I'm willing to take to share my life with a dog. Take the right amount of time & you'll know when it's right for you. You've been such an exceptional caretaker of your Indy & Max, maybe they will help you find someone to heal your heart?

I feel a bit helpless, that all I can do is offer hugging but they are from my heart

Ugh, the anger.

I always say, I wish that every dog had left someone behind to mourn them, but need to add, I do not wish that every person had to mourn their dogs as deeply as we all do.

Sometimes I think I get angry when it would just be too much to be sad for another minute.

Grief is constantly changing and so hard.

OK, like some self-centered jerk, I want to say that every loss of a truly beloved dog cuts me in two, because every loss recalls that moment when I knew Wolf was gone. I think we carry these scars, along with the treasured memories, as part of the bargain for love.

You will find your dog, your new dog.

Max was enrolled in the VDI study to test for hemangio and lymphoma. He had a blood draw the day that he died. VDI called either the next day or a couple days after and I told them what had happened with the u/s and that he was no longer with us.

I will update the thread here later, but I got the results back today. The results today in the mail, slightly elevated at 18.5, they say no need to be overly concerned and recommend a retest in 60 days teary

apart from my anger mad in my opinion this test has significant false negatives. So good citizens will submit samples from their dogs and get questionable results.

Simply shocking cry
