Which happens ALL the time - I mean, impossible to help all the dogs. And I get and accept that (well, not accept-you know what I mean).

But then sometimes one comes through that hits you hard...I just got a forward of a local dog, and I would bet money that she is Bella's sister. Seriously. She's 8, is getting eye drops, and well...looks just like her. She sounds a little skitchy temperament wise (also like Bella has been in the past) just needs a strong leader - so a difficult to place dog overall. I am switching employers at the New Year and need to be distraction free (as much as possible) for that transition time so have decided not to foster.

I am offering pictures and a more comprehensive "eval" and BDBH will courtesy post her if she's spayed...but don't know if the people who have her will take me up on this.

They said she has until Wednesday and I don't know what that means. Her person went into a nursing home and the picture they sent was of her with Santa. So heartbreaking to think of this dog who was loved enough to see Santa...and now what?

Oh no! That is heartbreaking. teary I hope that she can get spayed and someone will step up to foster her. I hate it when there is a date on the dog's life. mad

I think it's hardest when they look or sound like your own dogs. And there is so much guilt for those of us who have fostered in the past but can't do it when a dog that really pulls at our heartstrings comes up. But then I think of all the other people who have never fostered and I think, "Why can't they take just one dog?" Because if everyone were willing to foster (and/or adopt) just one dog it would go a long way towards saving these dogs.

Good-ish update - the dog has til at least after Thanksgiving now - she has someone to watch her while they are gone. Whew. And she seemed interested in the pics and eval. So that's good. I just don't want her to fall off the radar like they sometimes do.

Oh, thank goodness. Maybe you can help them keep her or at least come up with a plan to make it easier for them to continue to foster her until she finds a home.

Probably between the pannus and life change she feels the need to take charge and is making some bad decisions about appropriate behavior. Hopefully some advice from Jean and Bella will be just the thing they need. crossedfingers

So! Their person fell through and Mindy is at my vet office right now after picking her up this afternoon. It was that or a shelter. Not the place for an 8 yo GSD.

She currently looks NOTHING like Bella! rofl She could have been her in the picture! I do think they could be related though - I see a similarity in their heads. Not sure if you can have huge differences in structure in a litter - her body type is shorter, with the more downed pasterns. The BYB breeder lines Bella is from were I guess used quite a bit so they could be cousins or whatever it's called. She is a rough 8 though. Like Courtney Love rough (though I am guessing not for the same reasons)!

She will stay at the vet until the people get back from vacation on Monday and we will go from there. She did really well when I dropped her off. They are going to check her eyes and stuff and I will go visit her on Friday and Saturday.

Ah - selective hearing. So good of you to help her. The santa picture gets me too. A good reminder for all of us to be sure who would take and care for our dogs if something happened to us.

Kudos to you for all you do!

I brought fruits - pie seemed too heavy after Thanksgiving. wink

Selective hearing - just like my dogs!

So - this dog has the same birth month as Bella, I saw that in her records. Indulge me if you will in this photo question below.

Here is Bella:

Here is this other dog whenever the Santa pic was taken:

Here is the poor thing now:

REALLY bad picture of Bella with her in the kennel:

First, what happened? frown Her eight and Bella's eight...oof.
Second, I still think they resemble each other - am I just trying to see that?

They do look alike, Jean. You are not imagining it! poke smile

How is she doing at the kennel? Did Bella like her and vise-versa?

She looks so sad. I hope someone (cough, Jean, cough) can take her in.

Oh, Jean, she so looks like your dear Bella! So much love and potential. What a fall she has had from her Santa picture days. She just needs someone to offer her safety and warmth and some love for a while, gsdhalo until her life can settle into a permanent home. She's as beautiful and as soulful-eyed as Bella, but she has been through so much.
