Lakota went to the Vet today to have some sores checked. I saw a different Vet at the clinic and she is just as nice as the one I see all the time.

She tried to get enough drainage so they can do a culture. I will know in 3 - 5 days. So we are going to wait on the culture to see which ABX he needs, also if there wasn't enough to culture she will have to do a biopsy and the ABX will mess up the results. She might not have cultured but I told her that my DH has MRSA.

I was suppose to get his Rabies shot so I can get his dog license. She wrote me a note that we are postponing the Rabies until his infection clears up. Hopefully the Town board will accept that, I don't want to stress is system. If they don't I will ask them if they will accept a Titers until we get the infection cleared up.

He has a mole that is on the top of his withers that is bothering him, but we aren't planning anything until we can get the infection cleared up.

I am going to give him some Benadryl at night and a Zyrtec in the AM to see if this will help. No Pred in case it is MRSA. Also going to use the Zymox Medicated rinse to see if that will give him some relief.

He has had several Staph Infections before, but this one is presenting way differently than those did, he never had pussycat pockets before.

Oh poor Lakota, I hope he feels better soon! I hope they accept the vet note or a titers so he has a chance to heal.

Poor Lakota! I hope it's not MrsA, that's nasty business.

My husband had MrsA, bacitracin cleared it up. It was an RN that suggested it, the doctors had him on all kinds of oral meds that didn't work.

So glad the vet didn't insist on the rabies, and also that this was a nice vet. So much easier when it goes that way!

I hope that this is all uneventful. The sores sound funny though. Max doesn't get mole thingees, but he gets warty thingees that look very alien.

I really hate waiting for test results. Will be hoping that the culture is successful so that you can avoid the biopsy.

Many, many good thoughts and vibes flowing out for sweet Lakota. May this infection be brief crossedfingersand easily clobbered by meds!

Have you ever seen the tufa towers of Mono Lake in CA? I laugh, because that's what Max's things look like eventually, a single one of these:
http://www.monolake.org/about/geotufa

They start out as a flat pale mole, and then start raising. Then they almost look like a small engorged tick, and the last stage is the tufa looking thing. Eventually, and it takes months usually, the tufa starts breaking off, and inside is this white solid-ish stuff that looks like harden sebaceous cyst material. But when it initially breaks off, it bleeds ALOT, and may take a week, or even two, to break off, bleed, and then ultimately this hard seed of seb cyst material comes out.

I was real worried about them initially, but now I know not to worry as it goes through this process. The cyst on his spine was hardened, and the stuff inside was kinda similar. So somethign about him, doesn't allow his skin to filter this stuff.

I hope that Lakota's is similarly benign, though it's annoying and still a bit worrisome until you figure out what it might be. Max tends to get them near joints and/or vertebra, or areas that bug him, like an elbow or shoulder joint or knee, etc.

Jean, he had swelling and pockets of puss on the inside of both front legs and his left elbow, of course they all opened and drained before I could get him in to the Vet. The back feet and his belly look like his normal Staph break out. The swelling and pocketing of puss is not his normal presentation of Staph, so that has me a bit worried that it might be the MRSA.

I am going to give him the Bendryl tonight so maybe he can sleep. He doesn't itch or chew as much during the day because I tell him to stop it, but hey at night when mom is sleeping.......

Val, still thinking about the warty thing and also the areas of puss now....is it similar to maybe how some teenagers have bad acne? Or are the sores near joints?

Lisa, way different the warty thing has that whitish/yellow think junk.

The Puss pockets on the leg and elbow were LARGE, one one front leg it was about 3 inches long. Both front leg sore were in between the ankle and knee joint on the inside of the leg Hiding in his feathers until the other day, same with the elbow - hiding in the feathers. From what I could see the drainage was cloudy yellow with some blood in it.

Well Val, Lakota is up there in my list of weird things then.

I *really* hope that the culture shows something, and it's not MSRA.

Weird how it appears somewhat systemic frown

I think that thing that grows could be a cutaneous horn? The groomer found one on Mario once and sick .

Val - this was what Nina's leg looked like - she had these around her mouth, on her legs and the ones that my dogs alerted me to were the ones around her behind/on her flanks - we had to shave her to find those. I hope it doesn't look like this but thought I'd post it in case.

I know I should have probably taken pictures but I can't hardly get pictures of when they are happy and having fun. Not sure I want gross pictures.

Bill and I sat down and when through any changes that might have triggered an allergic reaction. So I have a list. Also talked to the Vet about Allergy testing on the Big Guy once we get him healed up and healthy. So I will need some guidance on which one I should ask them to use.

Depending on the results not sure I would do the shots, but it would give me some info to work with. Lisa you know those tests pretty good, is Rubber on the list. His best play toy is a tire off of a Wheel barrow.

Jean, I sort of prepared the DH for the big C word. But I don't really want to have to go there unless that is what it is.

Oh - that was her deep pyoderma - aka German Shepherd Pyoderma. It looked horrific but she just acted like it was no big deal. http://www.upei.ca/cidd/Diseases/dermatology/German%20shepherd%20pyoderma.htm

Another pic:

Just in case it's similar to what you are seeing you are steps ahead of where we were (bad pathology reading).
