It's been awhile since I've posted but I'm feeling pretty lonely right now.

Katie went to the bridge tonight. My heart is broken in a way that will never heal fully. She was my heart and saw me though graduate school, my internship and my licensing. She was there when I got engaged, married and had my daughter.

She was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy in October 2009 and last much longer than we'd expected. Her poor body just had nothing left and tonight, she let us know she was ready. She was a blessing and every moment including her last was special to me. Her spirit was so strong but her body gave out. She died in my arms and I felt her slip away. I told her that I would see her again and I'd take care of everything down here.

10 years. Funny how so much love and memories and life changing events can happen in just a short 10 years. Your sweet Katie was the same age as my Lacy that I lost to cancer last year.

No, you may never truly get over the loss of Katie, but it does get a bit easier to cope with as time goes on. They are always still wrapped in our heart strings, and that can never come unwound.

Bless you sweet Katie, I'm sure you'll find Lacy and many other friends at the bridge to make your wait a little more comforting.
