Thanks guys hugging

Last night:

TODAY - Another HUGE Milestone! I seriously can't believe how fast we are making progress.
In the morning I open the crate...and today...she came out of the crate on her own...and was watching me while I made breakfast..."I want to come out...but that wooden floor is soooooo scarey!"

Come on Chey...come on...
I went out onto our deck..and left the door open...and kept coaxing her...she kept looking...yearning...whining...then.......ta da!

You did it Chey!! All the way across that scarey floor all by yourself! You made it outside!

Next hurdle...I went down the two flights of outside steps into the yard with Ava and called and called her...finally...sloooowly...came Chey...whining the while time...I think I can...I think I can....then again...TA DA! Came down into the yard all by herself! Then reversed the process...I went up without her...kept calling...and eventually...there she was...back upstairs all by herself!

Here she is back inside...now what? How do I deal with all this scarey wood?

I put down her comforter her comfort zone..and let her take a break from the wood floor..she's resting.....it was a big morning. smile

We see the vet this afternoon. I was pretty depressed reading her chart from her previous vet...euth was recommended. She did have partial hw treatment because it was that vet's thinking to overcome the hw asap so the cancer could be tackled. (I do understand the catch 22)But she really did horrible after the shot...and can't go through another one. I know my vet is recommending slow kill...
It's such a sad situation.......

So heartwarming to see her progress. She's going to be a velcro dog - right on your heels every time you turn around. So happy for Chey. Keeping all fingers crossed for the vet visit! Thanks for the updates and pictures Mary Ann!!

Appt. was not good. It took every once of strength not to cry.
She's still loaded with HW. She has some fluid in lungs and abdomen..signs of some heart failure. Mammary cancer was felt but it won't be determined if they are malignant or benign as she isn't a candidate for removal. Malignant - 6-12 months...or if benign...they won't kill her but there is the risk of rupture and infection that can kill them.
Ok...so...she is not a candidate for any further hw shots. My vet wasn't sure she could go on heartguard at this stage...she is a stage 3..and said he would call and find out. I swear I have heard stories of high hw dogs being put on it.
(My vet hasn't had a dog with this stage heartworm in over a decade..)
If anyone has stories of high heartworm being treated with heartguard I would love to hear them.
Right now she is on some heartmed / diuretic for 5 days to stabalize her...and I'm to touch base with my vet to talk about future course of action.

All in all her prognosis is.....bad
Imput please frown

What about treating with doxy? I know it can kill some parasite in the HW and make it easier to kill the worms? Doxy is also an anti-inflammatory and can make the dog feel better in general.

I would definitely do your own research about the heartgard and high HW dogs, sounds like your vet isn't up on it.
What is the name of the heart med?

I'm so sorry the news is not good hugging Thank you so much for taking care of this girl hugging hugging
