Thank you for finding and posting this, Lisa. I found myself thinking a lot about my Dad last night. And how he and Chimo shared similar strengths. Both were teachers with a warm sense of humor and always willing to help others (Dad with people; Chimo with my other dogs and with my friends dogs who lacked confidence (Risa and Bella were two of his Fav non paq dogs).

Chimo lent his quiet strength and wisdom to Grimm, too-- and I am forever grateful. Ruq, wishing you some measure of comfort in knowing that Chimo touched so many of us, so very, very deeply. His patience, good sense, and leadership by example made Chimo so incredible special. He was really your boy. You kept eachother so safe. Chimo is loved by so many of us. Thinking warmly of you and your Paq tonight, Ruq. (((Hugs)))

I always thought of Chimo as a bit of inspiration. Much like Risa, he was shy outside but a bubbling personality in his comfort zone. I noticed, as he aged, he became more comfortable outside and hoped one day Ris could be the same way (and she's getting there).

He was so good with Risa. So calm and collected. She had nothing to fear from him.

And another from his first meeting with Risa:

Chimo and KC were two of the strongest dogs I have ever owned, always there for me when I needed them. Keyzah has taken on their nurturing spirit as she tries to make me laugh each day and she is there to dry my tears. Jethro is taking it hard and has been doing a LOT of leaning and just wanting to be next to me.

Lakota and Rayne seem to have known it was coming- they are both being much stronger than I would have expected as they were very close with Chimo. Lakota is now having to tolerate Keyzah kisses which before I had to remind her that they were kisses from KC (who always ALWAYS had to greet Lakota with a thorough face wash every time she entered Lakota's room - any room where Lakota was at). Keyzah was doing this with Chimo but now she takes a quick glance and Chimo isn't there so she musters her resolve and gives Kota her Chimo kisses. Kota prepares to grump a bit at the baby and Keyzah steps back, lowers her head and slow wags her tail as if she is saying, "these are for Chimo" and Lakota stops her grumping and accepts all the kisses from Keyzah. She is such a wise and compassionate soul- Chimo influenced her a great deal in their short time together.

Tika is almost torn between the added burden she seems to have taken upon herself, her own grief and her wanting to try to comfort me and make me smile. I am trying to let her know in any way that I can I do not expect her to carry on in Chimo's role as Paq leader.

Whoever says dogs do not understand and grieve is nuts. They too feel sorrow and loss and I am thinking of all of you.

In addition, Ruq's Paq is so compassionate. I guess hard times bring out the best in some creatures.
