What a sweet pic. I know it's hard Mary Ann, but yes...do take advantage of these precious moments and take lots of pictures always - even if they are not doing anything special. Hugs to you and give Cheyenne a big hug from me and the gang. Enjoy your weekend!

I am playing catch up again and was so happy to hear the heartworms are gone! That is most wonderful!

I know it is still a long road with many concerns, but that Chey is here and fighting her way through this - I'll say it again, that is a testament to the love and care she is getting from you and your family.

And how are the kids doing during all of this. I know they must be worried about Chey. (here is where I would insert an emoticom with a dog and kids - if we had one.)

I hope you are able to find some time to relax with all the high stress levels. The picture is wonderful.

Mary Ann,

Thanks so much for the new picture. Cheyenne reminds me of French vanilla ice cream, with that slightly mottled white coat enclosing pure sweetness.

I would like to have your attitude about life in general: to stop a while to smell the roses.

cheers,
MJ

That picture shows everything we want for our dogs. A nice soft warm bed, a best friend, and love. It is amazing how well they get along. Hugs to Cheyenne and your family again today. I know how every day can be a small baby step and how much worry goes into caring for a sick senior.

OK...MAJOR HEART PALPATATIONS HERE..........THE SURGERY IS ON FOR TUES FEB 7!!

I've had a few telephone calls from the internist (can I say again...I LOVE HER). She had expressed alot of concerns about Cheyenne's breathing during one of our conversations....more so than the tumor. She even said at one point that she didn't think that tumor would kill her any time soon........until I told her how rapidly it was growing...which totally changed things up.

Because I was getting that concerned about her breathing vibe from the dr......because I was worrying so much about her breathing myself....I had actually thought...this surgery isn't going to happen...and quite frankly...a big part of me didn't want it to happen anymore. I was too scared.

Upon receiving the last of the films she needed to review...the internist called me today. She said no where does she see any signs of heart failure on any films. I told her...I think there were no films actually taken when my vet made that diagnosis....but that he was just going by presenting symptoms...couldn't breath...fluid in lungs. She said based on her review...she does not feel that she was ever in heart failure...nor does she need all the heart failure meds she is on (3 diff. ones x day) and I was told to discontinue them. I am thrilled she doesn't need these meds to sustain her...and also...financially speaking...whoa...they were so expensive!

I can't remember if I told you guys...but we took her off the bronchodilator last week per the specialist as well...and she's been fine...let's just say...I don't think it made a difference being on it vs. being off it.

So...then she starts to discuss the surgery. Said the major concern will be going in and coming out of anesthesia. The surgery part itself is not a concern as it is a very controlled situation. She said they will have a critical care team present...and she will also be present (the internist). She states she has a much better than 50/50 chance. She discussed with me the risks in not having the surgery...rupture...psepsis...and again she was very concerned about pyrometria...and said she would never want her going through these things. She said...if it were MY DOG...I WOULD DO IT. I think I need to take those words very seriously. I respect her very much. She has been wonderful and has taken so much time with this case...and with me....I think every call we had was about 1/2 hour.

So...surgery is on Tues...Feb. 7....and I am a mess with fear and worry. Please let this be the right thing...please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Forgot to add - what is the on-going lung issue?
She said you can never know for certainty without a lung biopsy which is very invasive and expensive...and she said...we're just not going to do that. The most likely reason...is damage from her heartworm.

Mary Ann, I will put my money down on Cheyenne. She had less than a 50/50 chance when you got her and look where she is today. If she makes it through the surgery she will have more time with you. Honestly if she wouldn't make it, you would know that you did everything you could for her.

But like I said I am putting my money down on Cheyenne to win. I like the numbers.. 2/7 2 x 7 = 14 Valentine's Day. 7 is my lucky number... So I am running with the 2 7's.

Mary Ann, I know how stressful this must be for you. And no one can guarantee anything. But if this surgeon wasn't 150% sure, she would not proceed with this. Chey is in the best of hands. I like Val's numbers - Feb. 7 is Chey's lucky day. Did she say how long the surgery would take? We'll be there every step of the way with you and worry just as if she was one of our own!! She is loved by so many and all that positive, healing energy WILL make a difference! Kind of like she's going to be getting Reiki from all over the world!!
