Laos is at the 10 week post op mark from his TPLO surgery. He's been doing laser therapy along with the under water treadmill therapy twice a week for the past month. After a couple of set backs 1) infection 2) groin muscle injury, he's constantly doing well. As of Monday he has been off pain medication and the muscle relaxer. I truly believe maybe, just maybe, he might be back on the SchH field in 2 months for some training. The technicians took the video as apparently I put the dog "in drive" and he acts too crazy in the water.

He's thinking... man this water tastes good, but how come I'm not making myself go anywhere smile His feet almost looked webbed. Cool video!

He looks like he is working hard! Kayos sneaks little sips of water when she is in the tank too. I find it fascinating to watch their stride underwater.

I sue hope he is back on the training field soon. The fact that we have the technology now to help a dog with an injury like this is great. Years ago career would be over.

He is very handsome too. wub

How long does he do the underwater treadmill? I would love to take my girl to the local rehab place that has the underwater treadmill but they are very pricey.

Sleachy, Laos is up to 15 minutes.. once he's done this for a while, they will put him on the one that inclines. It's very pricey.. believe me if it wasn't for friends of Laos contributing to the "Laos fund", I wouldn't be able to afford the physical therapy. The surgery itself just about did me in financially.

Thank you Jane.. he's a special dog to me.. it's his personality that just melts my heart.

Kathy, you are right ~ 15 years ago and I believe his career would be over with. The physical therapy is what will make Laos able to get back on the training field, though I have start tracking him again. LOL and he loves tasting the water.

Lynn, love seeing Laos coming along so well, despite the setbacks. I'm glad that you are able to get him this kind of therapy and he's got so many friends to help him get back out on the training field.

I loved watching him biting at the water in the beginning and then settling down. Looks like the folks at the facility enjoy what they do. Of course, I noticed that poor gal wouldn't have wanted any shorter legs. wink

LOL, I know Diana, I emailed her after I got home to watch the video and told her "you look like you are riding a horse".. just because my Laosie poo is oversized doesn't mean you can ride him...LOL Apparently, her being over top of him keeps him calm during the therapy. thumbup

Diana, it's definitely intensified our bond. I have a lot of respect for this dog and how he's handle this. It shows alot of about the constitution of the dog. I really love Laos. Well actually I love all my dogs.. but you know what I mean. gsdbeggin

Wow.. look at him!

Great job Lynn and Laos!

You guys are progressing pretty fast and seems like he is doing really well. That's all on you! Excellent job!

Beau had to have someone hold her down (stand over her) while in the tank as well because she would always try to swim! Hehe..

Give Laos a pet for me! wub

Here's a side view of his actual knee movement. Shows that his gait in the water is almost "normal".

Gosh looks good!!! It does say a lot about Laos and his temperament and personality that he takes all this in stride. To accept all that handling by strangers, have someone stand astride over him and hold him, and him just being happy and playful the whole time. Excellent!

This is pretty amazing Lynn! Laos looks great and it's just incredible that pt for dogs has come so far in such a short time. What a relief that he's really on the road to recovery now! Thanks for taking such great care of him.

Massie had a total hip replacement about 18 years ago and I wasn't given any options for therapy. Since I lived in New Mexico swimming was out and so I had to rehab her with walks and slowly build her back up that way. At the time a lot of the surgery was pretty new too. I was living in a major city but I had to drive 8 hours each way to an orthopedic surgeon with a good success rate on the hip replacements.
