We went thru this for the first 3 years with Siena.

Our success came in relatively this order (making sure not to do anything too fast).
Metocloperamide /Reglyn once daily before breakfast. This is specific to treat vomit and regurgitation. With meds happens 3-4 x a year, without, it's a regular occurance.
Slippery elm at each meal.
Probiotics (we tried petDophilus originally).
B12 injection monthly (low b12 showed in bloodwork and is indicative of SIBO.
TYLAN was the main key to our success. Without it, she gets HGE and ends up sick, very fast. So after initial dosing, she gets one a day with food in am (and probiotics in other meal).

She also has an allergy to any poultry:bird and eats beef or buffalo as protein source.

That's my take on it. Best of luck. Can be hair pulling for sure.

Thank you all so very much for your responses hugging

LAM: The Canidae is made in the USA. The bag is a week old and Molly has not had any problems. It smells and looks the same as previous bags (we go through 1 a month).

The raw they both get is pretty much just a topping on the kibble and that hasn't changed - human grade meat. No bones for a few weeks and Ma and Pa do give tidbits but sod all really and they are aware of the big no, no's.

SO how long should I give just the probiotics before I trial the next step? He had 1 last night and just now.

Again last night and this morning his poop was fine and yet on our morning walk it was icky again frown

I am just unsure whether this is an oddity or now a more serious ongoing issue.

Thank you all again so very much hugging

I find that sometimes my dogs will have great poos first thing in the morning and as the day preogresses will have a gooier one. Like Havoc's this morning on our walk.

I sometimes think the exercise moves the bowels along faster so the poop is not as formed as there is more water in it. Just my take after watching Havoc have digestive issues off and on for 6 years. I tend to fixate on his elimination habits and really, he is fine and this is normal for him. Mayhem will also do this and she has never had a problem. Kayos does not do this and has also never had digestive problems unless she eats soemthing she should not eat.

Hope Coopie's poopies are better! rofl poop

(Can I be a poet when I grow up?? -- WAIT -- I am NEVER growing up!!!! rofl ))

If the bag of food is only 1 week old and the problem other than bile started within that time I would go get another bag of food and feed that noting if you see a difference. Maybe check to make sure new bag is not from same lot?

Another thing you could do is to homecook chicken and rice, this should make everything better and if it is better then you go back to the food and he's messed up again you would know it's the food or something in the food that's not agreeing with him. I would do the homecooked bland diet for about 1 week then slowly reintroduce the kibble.

Our bag of food smelled fine and was not old either. I can't say it was the food, but I can say that since we switched there has been no vomiting, diarrhea or excessive gas.

I took me a long while to resolve mucous in the stool. Figured it out by accident. I had been giving the Barker Sisters raw local honey. Doesn't take much to produce a mucousy stool. So perhaps what you are feeding has a sugar content?

Chamsa would vomit bile frequently unless I fed her small meals four times a day. Check the ingredients in food and try a diet without them - I would avoid Hills Z/D it is not for long term use and one of the ingediants is a known carcinogenic.

Chamsa always did well on Orijen five fish when she was having one of her 'episodes'. Hope things resolve soon

Like Havoc, Niko has the same decline in poop quality through the morning. I take him out to run and we don't begin running until he has his first poop. It is always nice and firm (well, normally it is). A couple miles down the road he will go again, and it is generally rather nasty to pick up, soft and gooey. If he goes a third time, I just look the other way whistling because it won't be much, we are in the middle of the woods, and I wouldn't be able to pick it up anyway. I will look around and put a big rock on it crazy

Then if he goes in the afternoon, it will be firm again. So I like Kathy's theory of time spent in the digestive system resulting in firmer poops due to increased water absorption.

This could be totally wrong, but is it the protein source causing the issue? The last time Niko has this problem (mucous poo) he had eaten beef. Beef seems to really mess with him. It doesn't bother Rosa at all.

Way back when, when I was still training (other dogs, not my own), it used to be that dogs either did really well on Canidae, or not. If you don't see improvement on the probiotics in about 4-5 days, I would try a bland diet.

Jazz here gets 1 human probiotic a day, and a double(?) dose of mercola probiotics. She is on antibiotics, but that seems to work for her. I would consider working up to 1 pill twice a day, then two pills twice a day for a GSD with symptoms.

rofl Kathy! Coopies poopies were better today!!!!! And my mum said growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

Thank you all so much. I think I will give it until the weekend on just the probiotics and go from there. He didn't have a poop on this mornings walk and the ones at home are ok.

Nice though, went into the vets to pay for the fecal today and he said nope, no charge as I fund them enough! smile

Thanks MIddle, I will look at the bag and check the sugar, never would have thought of that.

Really interesting that Havoc and Niko have similar during walks/runs.

I feed the Chicken, lamb, turkey and fish version. Now that I actually think about it, that is a heck of a combination???? The problem is, there really isn't very much decent quality kibble to choose from. And they have both seemed healthy since being on it, skin, coat and firm poops.

What a super-duper wonderful vet you've got! How is Cooper doing? I am really hoping the probiotics help. I notice that when I start Grimm on them (or myself, for that matter) after a period of not being on probiotics, the first few days might not be the nicest digestion. Give it a few days, and those probiotics really help!
