Hey guys,
I haven't been on here in a long time but have found that I need the advice of my GSD friends, so here I am asking you guys. I just found out today that my little girl, Rogue, has Pannus. Actually we caught it very early so we have the drops, but the vet mentioned I should try out some doggles. I was wondering if anyone has had any success with these things? Did your dog actually tolerate them after awhile or did they constantly pull them off?
Right now the Pannus is in both eyes, and the left one is more effected than the other, the left one has it on the inside corner and the outside corner. We have been hanging outdoors a lot lately so I know it is the extra UV light that has caused this to flare up, so we will be cutting that exposure down, but thought I would check out other ways I could help out as well.
Thanks for the advice!

Aodhán wears Doggles when we go for car rides. When I first started using them on her, she would push at them a little, but it didn't take her long to accept them. You can see them on her in my avatar.

Kayos has Pannus as well but I have never tried doggles with her. I figured she would hate them and she has been well controlled for years with drops.

Thanks guys, Kathy how many times do you put drops in Kayos eyes? For now I have to do twice a day for a month and then I guess we drop to the maintenance level, but I am not sure what that is yet.
Cute pic Johanna, I think I am going to give them a try, winter is right around the corner which for us means some pretty strong months for UV rays, with the snow bouncing the rays back in your face, so I hope Rogue will learn to get use to them like yours has.

I bought a pair for Skye when she was diagnosed, but I have a terrible time fitting them on her. Her head is small and the goggles don't quite sit right. What I really need is to tint my big front window. Skye loves to look out that window, but when it is really bright - or snowy in winter I do see her pannus getting worse. Skye was down to meds every 3 days, but lately her eyes do not look good. I am back to once a day, but really think it is time for to get a recheck to see if a different med would be better for her. She was diagnosed almost 4 years ago by the way. I am sorry you are experiencing this, but if a dog has to have an autoimmune disease, this is the one to get, It is very treatable and appears not to be painful. We just need to stay on top of how they are doing.

Hey - I really like that idea. It would be a little pricey, but very effective. I will probably order one for Skye's window. I like the idea that they can moved easily. Now - how will hold up to those nose prints??? Thanks!

Barker the Elder had pannus - we, too, were living at high altitude. The intense UV in the Rocky Mountian West tends to trigger this response in susceptible dogs. We initially treated with the standard drops from the vet. It still progressed. It was after she had blocked tear ducts that my "regular" vet could not clear that we went to the specialist at Eye Clinic for Animals in SLC. There they took care of one of the blocked ducts & assessed her pannus. We were given special drops & special tests that helped subdue the pannus. She retained her eyesight for the rest of her life (she was nearly 15 when she died.) You are in Colorado so you have a good teaching vet school in the state. I'd ask for a referal to a specialist there.
BTW we took to staying out of the sun between 10 am and 2 pm when the UV rays are strongest. Before doggles, I rigged up a doggy cap (found at Wal Mart) and an early pair of dog sunglasses. Neighbors thought I was nuts. Too bad.
