I just learned that apparently different Microchips do different things (some have websites where you can update stuff online, some don't). Does anyone have any recommendations for a Microchip when we chip Viking?

Skye's chip is by Avid. I pay no annual fees and no fees for updates.

Last year I realized I had not revised my cell number and gave them a call. They asked some security questions to be sure I was really her owner. They will not update on line for that reason. Anyone that has the chip # (which I have on a tag Skye wears) could make an update otherwise and it might not be legitimate.

They not only updated the phone #, but went through a series of questions for her records. Most importantly, they asked about any new or regular medications - important since she has to take meds for her eyes.

They also added her eye vet contact to her records.

I got Skye's chip during a pet expo - the local shelter was doing them at half price.

I also have my vet scan her every year to be sure it can be read.

Edited to add: After the call they asked my preference of email or postal mail to send the update. I asked for both just to be safe. No fee for that and I can keep her information handy on my computer and in her folder.

Risa's microchip is by 24PetWatch. There is no fee to update any of it and you can do it all online, which is nice.

Sammy and the kitties have Res-Q chips. I can update on line including medical information and I also have pictures attached to their information.

Annie has an AKC chip - also can update online.

Ivy's microchip is by AVID.

Mason's microchip is by HomeAgain. I can update his info, add pics, etc. right online, which is nice.

Rosa has 24PetWatch and Niko has HomeAgain. God willing we'll never need to use them.

I haven't had Kaos chipped yet, but when I had Dante chipped I had it done at the shelter that he would most likely be taken to if he got out - It's Avid.

I'm with Leah on this one, hope they never have to be used!!!
