Hi all,

I was cleaning out the freezer and found some steaks in the back. One is from Oct 2010 and is freezer burned in spots. I thawed it and it does not smell bad or spoiled but does have that freezer burned smell. Otherwise it is mostly looking ok. It is a BIG steak without any fat on it. I was wondering if it would be okay to give this to Saber as her dinner tonight and maybe a meal tomorrow too. I cubed it up and it is 1.4 pounds of beef chuck flat iron steak. She usually eats TOTW Pacific Stream (3.5 cups/day) and has no problems with beef.

Can I? If so how much should I give at a meal? Can I just give it to her straight or should I mix it with kibble?

I'd rather feed it in the morning than evening, if she isn't use to raw meat. Or just add chunks to her kibble for a couple few meals. 6 oz or so per meal shouldn't be a digestive issue. Or you can cut it up small, add some garlic powder and us it as tracking bait.

I wouldn't want to feed just Muscle Meat as a meal for one or more days (you would probably want some sort of RMB in there). I would use it to supplement maybe or as treats.

Okay thanks. The only raw she is used to, is beef knuckle bones and also femur bones from the local farm. She gets maybe 3 a week.

Dogs digest raw meat and kibble at different rates. I've been told that it's easier on their GI not to mix the two and results in less upsets. I say go for it, he'll love it!

It's just for a couple of fun meals, it won't hurt her if there is just muscle meat. I have done this too when we don't get around to eating chicken and stuff...that's the dog's dinner and it's just muscle meat. Ember has a pretty senitive stomach and doesn't have any issues with that. She will enjoy the treat
