Why is the front door open?

DH and I spent most of this morning and early afternoon cleaning the house and getting ready for company for the Super Bowl tonight. I took a break and went for a run and while I was gone, he went out to get a new belt for the vacuum because it had burnt while he was using it (all that shepherd hair!). I was finishing up in the bedrooms and bathrooms and he was doing surgery on the vacuum in the kitchen when he called me to show me how the dog fur had been burning in the vacuum. Well, as I was walking down the hall toward the kitchen I noticed a breeze and distinct change in temperature to cold and saw that the front door was open. I thought he might have had it open for some reason and asked, "Why is the front door open?" DH just looked at me, confused. Imagine my surprise when I looked out the front door and saw Tara hanging out in the front yard! I called to her and she came running inside. I left her inside with DH and went out and found Suli (our indoor cat) hanging out in the flower bed. I still am not entirely sure how the door got opened. DH came and went through the garage, but I let Tara in through the front door after our run (which had been several hours earlier!). I guess it must have been slightly cracked and either blew open, or I somewhat suspect the cat managed to open it and let herself out. She is quite the escape artist. Tara will not usually leave the house without permission, but I would be willing to put money down that she followed her big kitty sister outside. Thank goodness neither of them took off!

OMG.. That would terrify me!
So happy to hear that both Tara and Suli stayed close to home!

Naughty Suli! But both good girls for staying there!
That would be my worst nightmare because I know the dogs would chase the cats (away).

Oh wow that would have terrified me too. Good girls for staying at the house and not wandering off.
I discovered the gate to the yard standing open one morning but thankfully Kayos and Havoc stayed in the yard. I think the guys that sprayed the yard left the latch ajar and we had wind a few days later and it was blown open. We usually keep a padlock on it but both of us thought the other one had locked it back. Now we ask to ake sure it is secure.

Good girls for staying in the yard and not go out investigating!
I often worry about someone opening my gate after I go to sleep, and my dogs getting out without my knowing. I also worry that the wire field fencing might come loose from the house. Up until yesterday it was attached with just three nails. I noticed the other day that two nails were not holding well, so yesterday I took a 2x4 and nailed it up to hold the fence in place. This is a rental house so I try to not put too many nail holes in things, but I also know this house will quite likely be torn down when I move and a big fancy thing built to replace it, so I decided my dogs safety is more important than a few nail holes.

Bev, can you put a padlock on your gate? I have one on my back gate as I am too paranoid.
