Ok, members of the poo club and beyond, I have a really challenging one for you. Gracie on occasion has a little, square orange carrot (I'm assuming) in her poo. She does NOT eat carrots so I am incredibly stumped. This is what she eats:

Precise Holistic Complete Wild at Heart River Line - Salmon

INGREDIENTS:

Salmon Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Potato, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbyl Palmitate), Rice Bran, Citrus Fiber, Flaxseed, Dried Egg Product, Natural Flavor, Fat Product (natural source of omega-3 DHA from algae), Lecithin, Chicken Cartilage (source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate), Dried Kelp, Alfalfa, Peas, Dried Apples, Dried Carrots, Dried Cranberries, Dried Blueberries, Chamomile, Dandelion, Peppermint, Rosemary, Turmeric, Menhaden Fish Oil, Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086, Chicory Root (a source of Inulin), Potassium Chloride, Salt, Dicalcium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Biotin, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, DL-Methionine, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Folic Acid, Selenium Yeast, Calcium Iodate.

And the only cookies (except for a honey nut cheerio or 2 every so often):

Blue Basics Biscuits - Salmon & Potato

# Salmon,
# Whole Ground Brown Rice,
# Oatmeal,
# Potatoes,
# Potato Protein,
# Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids),
# Cane Molasses,
# Carrots,
# Canola Oil (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols),
# Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C),
# Vitamin E Supplement,
# Salt,
# Calcium Carbonate.

Really?? Could the carrots in her cookie, which is a hard baked cookie with no chunks in it, really form carrots in her system?

This is the strangest thing I've seen.

Dried Apples, Dried Carrots, Dried Cranberries

She does eat carrots! Carrots are really hard to digest unless they are lightly cooked or pureed.

But these are coming out as chunks, like the size of carrot chunks in frozen mixed vegetables. There aren't chunks in her food. Could the carrot be reforming? This is a strange one smile

Yes, they could be reconstituting. They are absorbing water from her digestive tract, probably.

That's why I hate the fact that they put freeze dried veggies in stuff. Most of it does come out whole.

WOW that's really wild!!! I guess I should have said she doesn't eat raw carrots. I wasn't clear. Thanks Ruth for your input. I appreciate it. She's been having bouncing poop so it's not adversely affecting her. I just found it strange!!

Glad to know I am not the only one! I had this happen a few times with my Vigo over the summer and could never figure out why. Especially since he eats raw, but he does get a bit of kibble and some other treats at bed time.

Remember those little dehydrated sponge animals? They start out as little capsules and then you add water and they get pretty big?

Same thing, basically. smile

It could be something else that's bothering her too. I know, if Risa eats salmon (or anything else that upsets her gut), her poo sometimes has orange portions. I've come to associate anything orange in Risa's poo with something she is sensitive to. Especially now that she's eating squash/pumpkin daily and, despite it's orange color, it doesn't come out orange later on.
