What would be Semi-Homemade. Some things I make are made with canned goods, other things I make from scratch, but you could use a pre-made product. So I guess I am not quite sure what Semi-Homemade category would be.

Exactly what you just said. A "from scratch" recipe but converted to an "easy recipe" with substitutions of canned, store-bought, packaged, left-over, etc. ingredients. What comes to mind is shepherd's pie, stroganoff, multi-step cakes (made with a mix vs. individual ingredients), etc.

We will have to try to figure out how to make this work.

Absolutely. We have a couple of experts here.

How about if we make the last chapter a “Cooking Tips” chapter¸ such as:

Don’t add oil to your water when boiling pasta; the sauce won’t stick.
Your gravy will only be as thick as when it boils.
Let you meat rest on the counter at least 30 minutes before grilling/broiling and 5 minutes after it's done grilling/broiling.
Salt and pepper aren't married - salt always gets invited to the party; pepper rarely does (from Anne Burrell - Food Network).
Catsup doesn't enhance a flavor; it changes it (Food Network).

(Even if we disagree, the readers can try all and decide for themselves. At least, it’s a starting point.)

Also, a fresh-to-dried spice conversion, and anything else we can think of.

I would like to have some conversions in the book also.

Like how to make Self Rising flour from Regular flour.

Hmmmm - how about instead of "puddings", we do a "miscellaneous" under desserts? I have a pretty good jello nut salad that is a dessert and wouldn't fall under "Salads". And a strawberry Napoleon - wouldn't know where to put that. And where would tiramisu go?

Actually, I think we should have a "Miscellaneous" category by itself, because some things just don't fall under any one category. Like Elvi's goulash, for example. Is it a meat? A pasta? A casserole?

For sure this will be a members only forum, no guests allowed to view. Another thought, should it be limited to those who want to contribute to the book? Just asking?

I will look at the page sizes and do a page mock up so you can see that and add suggestions.

My answer would be no. Many people want to cook but don't know how or where to start. Also, many people know how to cook but don't have recipes. I think it should be open to all, regardless if they contribute.

I couldn't contribute to a dog sporting book, but I sure would like to read about the different types. JMO.

How about "Side Dishes" - pasta, potatoes, rice, etc.

I'd suggest Side Dishes as a main category and then put things like potatoes, vegetables, etc under that as sub-categories.

Oh, and any recipe I've gotten from another published source I intend to tweak so it becomes my own! (But I usually do anyway.)

On thing that I think would be nice is Approx. Prep time and then maybe time to table. I don't want to tackle something that is going to take 1 1/2 hours if I only have 45 mins.

Val, do you want us to take a few pictures or our dishes that you can include? Or no because that would cost too much in printing?

Vin the inside pages are black/white. Not sure how appealing black and white pics would be. But if you guys want to take pictures when the book is done I could set up a place on the WP front end for pictures of recipes in the cookbook.

I do have some cookbooks with B&W pictures. I think they just did that to break up all the lettering. ??? Up to you, whatever you think will look best.

I was thinking about including members Avatar if they wanted and maybe some simple clipart type things.

Well, I'm having a senior moment because I can't picture how this is going to come together.
I have seen three recipes posted, but they are all listed under the main heading. Are we having sub-headings under each heading, such as:

Main Dish:

Chicken:

(Recipes)

Fish and Seafood:

(Recipes)

I will divide them when I put them into the book. You can Also when you are putting your Recipe in Tag it at the beginning to make my life easier.

The Sub categories would take up too much space. If in a month or so we would need them I can do that. But let's see how this goes for now.
