They are, IMO shaky at best... I was just looking over at Pedigree.com at Nadia's Dam. I am the only one who ever bothered, to the best of my knowledge, to put in any info on any of her bloodline, but I did notice that her Dam was HD-OFA'd - Excellent So in the scheme of things I think that means that the likelihood of HD for Nadia is slim? http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=522524Zisso's pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=595041Z's Sire doesn't appear to have been OFA'd -I don't think his Dam was OFA'd either I know the people who he came from are BYB's and figure they think the fact that their dogs Dams and Sire's OFA's a good enough because they are SchH dogs...none of which seem to have been OFA'd *shakes head* http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=503742Note* I tried to upload better pics of both my dogs on their pedigree's but the site didn't take the uploads for some reason. Any thoughts on their shaky at best pedigree's?

I bred an OFA good bitch to an OFA excellent male and got very dysplastic puppies, so it can happen. That's why I question if her odds are slim.

WoW! This is really cool! I could have never found it by myself. I believe I tried once before but seems if I remember right, I couldn't even find the OFA site..shows my level of intelligence and persistence!! I just now caught that it is offa.org (I probably looked for ofa.com knowing me) Nadia, to the best of my knowledge, was bred in North Bend, WA and her papered name is Vom Marjos Broken Brody. Her Dam is BRITA MAGNUS NATT OCH DAG http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=522524 . Nadia's Sire is BJORN JOHAN AGUSTA http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=522631&p=5-generation-pedigreeHope the Dam and Sire's links work. Oh I put Nadia's Dam in my 1st post...here is Nadia's pedigree (Not much to it that I can tell) http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=609907

Were did Nadias dame come from?? Just curios since her name is in Swedish...(sorry I know it's not related) No worries Actually I am glad you mentioned that as I wasn't sure if it was Swedish or not. Most of my inquiry today is just for my own knowledge any way. Started out I was bored..

I think the pedigree as a whole is much more important that individual dog's OFA. Of course that's important too, but I would take a "fair" with generations of good hips over and "excellent" fluke in a pedigree of otherwise mediocrity.

That makes sense Justine!
Both of my dogs have been spuetered, so I am not planning on breeding, and given the tough economy I have not OFA'd my pair but it is nice to see just what I might be facing as they get older. Being that they are 4 years old now, I figure this is a good time to take a gander.
HD is such a hard disease to cope with when our pups are older especially. My last GSD had it. I could hear her hips pop and when she was 10 I had to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge because she was nearly immobile. Her quality of life had deteriorated so terribly the last few years - it was so heartbreaking, and something I do not relish facing again.
